I loaded up some more ammo today, and while checking everything out on Quick Load, 56 grains is only slightly under max, so I loaded up a batch, using only 55 grains. Quick load predicts 100% burn, and over 30 percent ballistic efficiency. I doubt I lost more than 35 FPS and after a quick scope change, and rezero, I put 2 in the same hole, in the 12 O'clock position, on a 1 inch orange dot. Fiddling with quickload indicated that N135 is the best powder I have on hand for the 9.3X74R. Min impact velocity for the 250 grain TTSX is 1800 FPS, so I have about 500 to play with. That should get it out there a ways.

As you guys might have read on another thread. The combination of a 250 grain Barnes TTSX, is pretty good at smacking bears in a terminal manner. I think it is a good GP load. Might use the 56 grain max load if I go after a eland in Namibia next year, as they are a very large creature. 55 grains seems to be easy on brass, and the large plastic tip causes positive upset, at the 9.3X74Rs velocity's.

There's no way an Eland will know the difference. Shoot whatever is most accurate. Depending on when you go, it could be warmer. Also, most of the hunting is at a few thousand feet, it will be a bit faster anyway.

Call me old fashion but I just cant bring myself to even think about loading anything lighter then 286gn in the 9.3, I know you ttsx etc kill well but Im just fan of the classics.
I'm soft and I don't care.

I use only the 286 Barnes in the 9.3. Hits like the proverbial hammer.

I hope to have my 400 yard range done in a few more weeks, and intend to investigate the decently high ballistic coefficients of the Barnes 250 grain TTSX.
