So if the velocities achieved produce an accuarate round that enables the bullet to perform as designed in the game you target at the ranges you will shoot - is it worth pushing your rifle to its max specs? I'm not saying you shouldn't (or that I don't) but you should at least ask yourself that question before pushing your kit hard.
Yes it's about finding the right balance I believe.

I had a chance to do some further testing today for velocity and signs of pressure. No groups shot as useing the magneto speed for velocity.
It was a humid 32c day.
54 gr 2458
54.5 gr 2474
55 gr 2533
55.5 gr 2561
56 gr 2584
56.3 gr 2613
56.6 gr 2626
57 gr 2628
57.5 gr 2656
There were no signs of visible or measured pressure in my brothers R8 with any of the above loads.
Extraction was flawless and no noticable differance to any other session.

We also chronographed three factory loads again, just to get an average velocity under exactly the same conditions.
They came in at 2651 fps.

We will do some accuracy testing next session.

Believe me the groups were not worth posting.
That Magneto speed wrecks havoc on group testing.
As soon as we took it off we fired three factory RWS rounds and straight away got an 11mm group.

You dont know any gunshops in Melbourne that have any RWS 173 Grain soft points in stock by any chance??

Nah mate, nobody will stock them anymore due to the ridiculous prices nowdays. As you know Rebel had the last lot, I'll keep an eye out for you anyway. :handgestures-thumbup:

I assume you can't import them yourself but, just the same, these guys likely have them (I didn't check).... https://www.johannsen-shop.de/de/Wieder ... Langwaffen

Well the journey continues, and what an interesting day at the range it was today.
After disscussions with Woodleigh I have settled on the Woodleigh 175 Grain PPSN for all deer species, but only if I can get an accurate and safe 2700fps out my brothers 7x64. This is needed for reliable expansion on all species.
This projectiles has a BC of .510 and a SD of .310.
We backed off 2 grains from our previously tested safe load of 57.5 grains as I was switching projectiles. I also increased the COL to 84.1.
I had a few operator errors with my strap on chronograph, so only got velocity readings from 58.5 grains.
Here are the results.

58.5 gr 2732 fps approx 1.5 " groups
59 gr 2750 fps approx 1" groups
59.5 gr 2805 fps approx .75" groups
60 gr 2861fps approx .75" groups

It is about 30C in Brisbane today.
Absoluetly no signs of pressure are evident with any of the above loads, measured or visual for 9 shots.
It is quite windy today and I am confident we can tighten those groups up a bit.
We have decided to settle on the 59.5 grain load for 2805 FPS. This will be an excellent deer load.
This whole expirience has been very rewarding and satisfying, and proves two things.
There is a Blaser god, and the 7x64 Brenneke is one hell of a cartridge.

So that was with RL and 173gr bullet?

If so, then those velocity and energies are right up there.

That's impressive then. 2960 fps with 175gr is steaming.

Looking good

Interesting jump from 2805 to 2960 with .5g  how many rounds did you chrony vs put on paper? (I'm guessing due to POI shifts with the strap on it wasnt the same string shot for accuracy, correct?)

If no obvious pressure signs I'd load up another 10 each of 59.5 & 60g and chrony 5 and put the other 5 into cardboard

And did the Jeffrey get a run?

Sorry guys my typo should read 2861 with 60 grains.
I shot three rounds at each increment for velocity with strap on, plus two groups of three shots. So nine rounds at each level.
We need to do more thorough group testing but early signs are good.
I dont think I can get anymore than 60 grains in, though I am tempted to try. But 2805 fps with a 175 grain projectile is a powerful and flat shooting load, especially in a non magnum cartridge.
No Jeffery today.
I would like to do more work on this load for our annual Fallow hunt this year first.
