Meopta R2 1.7-10x42 ???

Post by Rory77 »

Does anyone own or have handled the Meopta r2 1.7-10x42 scope ? Their thoughts on it, and how it compares to the Swarovski Z6i 1.7-10x42 ?

Nowhere near the swaro. The Image quality and mechanics on the swaro are classes above the meopta.
The meopta has decent glass, but they are a nightmare mechanically.

Haven't looked thru this scope but reviews seem favourable. I have the Swaro 1.7-10 and it's one of my favourite scopes. Extremely versatile, great field of view and now sits atop my 9.3. Usual Swaro quality and the support offered by Swaro is excellent.

The swaro 1.7-10x42 seems the way to go, great colours! What are the thoughts on the cdi reticle ?

Definitely go with the Swaro and if You could afford, look through the Z8i first, before making any decision... You won´t regret it! There is a big difference between the Zwar and Meopta!
life is too short for not having the best equipment You could buy...

Concur with all of the positive reviews of Swaro. The 1.7-10x42 is a wonderful scope, mine is mounted on the k95.

I have a Meopta R1r 3-12 x 56 RD on a Krico 600L in 222. It's a decent product but doesn't match up to my Swaro scopes.

Yeah the helia is nice as well, but heavier and I think the cross hair was finer? The three I've got down to were s&b , helia and Swarovski.. will check out Z8i as well!! What's the the switch reticle they have ?

The switch reticle is called the Flexchange. I wasn't a fan of this reticle until availability forced me into one when I bought my Z8i 1.7-13.3X42 rail mount. Now that I am used to it, I really like it. The larger circle is fast, so fast I may forego my beloved H1 micro. You can turn the circle illumination off if you only want the center dot. I do this for night time hunting and it works well. I bought this scope for my incoming K95 Stutzen but since I don't have it yet I've been using it on my R8 6.5 Creedmoor and now I'm afraid I need another. I also really like the shape of the Z8i control module much more than the Z6i control module with it's wider and sharper cornered surfaces. Those sharp corners just invite wear from rubbing against clothing and general abrasion. Also visibility of the ballistic turret is improved and the ballistic turret itself is greatly improved in the Z8 compared to the Z6.
These are expensive scopes yet I would eat cheap to afford one if I had to.
