Docter 3 Sight
I love my Docter.
A few years ago I purchased a Docter 3 red dot sight and Henneberger mount from Titanium Gunworks.
Thankyou Klaus.
It only weighs 75 grams and is so tiny it fits in my top pocket easily without even noticing it's there.
I mounted it on my 9.3x62 R8 barrel mainly for pigs.
I have not shot it for over a year so thought I would fire a few shots out of it over a hundred yards today.
Below is a 3 shot group using Geco factory 255 grain express ammo.

The point of impact is actually about a cm high not left of the bullseye.

The left hand hole has blown your group out to around .45"/.5"

Re: Docter 3 Sight
Yes I must have pulled that one...
But I really must take a reality check.
One 3 three shot group proves absolutely nothing.
I never really thought that such shooting is possible with a red dot. It sort of makes you think if you only shoot to say 200 yards in daylight hours do you really need a scope...

Re: Docter 3 Sight
I've found that accurate shooting requires a different set of skills than what most people think. The common thought is that if you can't see it you can't hit it. But the actual skills are the basics, sight alignment, sight picture, and trigger control added to that is relaxed muscles that allow a straight line recoil, any muscle tension to one side or the other destroys accuracy.
I've actually found that I can shoot exactly the same size groups with iron sights or my 36X benchrest scope. Of course the devil is in the details, and it takes many rounds fired to learn those details.
When I shoot my service rifle with a .072" wide front sight, the bullseye looks like a BB sitting on the centerline of a four lane highway, yet somehow miraculously, the bullet goes not only to the BB but to the center of the BB. This is of course, provided you have all those other aspects of accurate shooting under control.
I wish I would have known about red dot sights when I was growing up shooting running deer in front of hounds. I think I would have been much more successful much quicker.
Anyway, good shooting, you must be getting those other fundamentals down pat.

I'd be cheering to shoot a group like that with a red dot.
I'm soft and I don't care.

I know one thing for certain.SPEEDY wrote:I'd be cheering to shoot a group like that with a red dot.
I will never shoot another group at 100 yards with a red dot.
After that group I couldn't get the rifle in the case quick enough...

Yes we all like the one holders but in reality, with a red dot sight as Bob noted you have the fundamentals down then your hitting the mark. Now overlay on that you have a back pack on, you have climbed up a hill, your target is at 50m in thick scrub, it’s moving and the pulse is racing whether it’s a .05moa or 1.5 moa group is not going tomatter too much.

Yes spot on Oscar.
It will mainly be used for walking up pigs along creeks etc. A 4 inch group would probably do the job at those distances.

Re: Docter 3 Sight
Certainly good shooting. As Bob has mentioned sometimes you can get such good groups with iron sights also. It just happens if the rifle is aligned right with the same presure/ rest/ hold on the stock. I'm thinking of getting a red dot now to replace the scope for stalking and carrying a scope in the backpack if a longer distance shot arrises. With a Blaser you're always assured a return to zero.

Re: Docter 3 Sight
For shooting pig/deer size animals, this is why the red dot and in particular the aimpoint is ideal in my books. It doesn't affect the handling of the rifle and accuracy is more that adequate for bigger animals. And then its just practice in a variety of positions down the range to simulate field positions. I'm lucky with the combo and drilling as I can practice on clays as well has just offhand at stationary targets.
I have tried a doctor II sight on a few times on different combos and I like them.
