Need Optic Advice & Options for my new Blazer R93 Rifle

Post by thalomid1 »

Hey Everyone,

After much debate I finally bit the bullet and picked up my first Blazer Rifle; It's a Blazer R93 LX chambered in 257 Weatherby Mag.
Once I got the rifle home and had a chance to really look it over good and explore the craftsmanship and advanced technology; the only disappointing thing I can report is I wish I had bought a Blazer 10 years ago. Better late than never and I am eager to break it in on opening deer hunting day in the Northeast.

However; before I can do that; I need some help with selecting and purchasing the right optic for this Blazer Rifle, here's a list of the optic criteria I am wanting:

1. 30MM Tube
2. 150 yds to 300 yds max shooting distance
3. Sleek & Lightweight to compliement the R93 rifle
4. Easy to Use & Adjust
5. Budget is $500-$700 tops

Thanks in Advance for your help,

Sincerely,
thalomid1

I would consider the Swarovski Z3 range.
I have a 3-9x36 and am very happy with it, but they do make other sizes in the Z3 range if you prefer.

A 257 Bee doesn't need adjustable turrets to get to only 300 yards. With a 200 yard zero you can hold dead on the center of the chest 0-300. That will allow you to get by with a simple capped scope void of turrets or ballistic reticles.
One of our members has a great deal on a new Zeiss Conquest and a Blaser 1" QD base that I would recommend for you.
You really can't get a quality scope with a 30mm tube in your budget range so if it were me I would choose a high quality 1" tube over a poorer quality 30mm tube scope.

I would agree with Bobs post.
That’s a very good buy and that particular model of Zeiss Conquest scopes were fantastic lens quality for the price.
I used one of them for many years without any issues.

I'd go the Zeiss conquest too in a 3.5-10, only a 25mm tube, or a Nightforce SHV 3-10 would be ideal.

I agree that particular Zeiss Conquest, the 3.5-10x44, is a great scope for the money. Another option in your price range that I would recommend would be a Swarovski Z3 3-10x42.

What others have said, I believe to be true as well. In that price range you can get better glass and features with a late model higher end 1” tube scope than with what you can buy in a 30mm tube scope. A 1” tube scope also fits your other criteria better than a 30mm tube scope. Lighter, etc.

I prefer the 1" scopes due to 30mm having additional bulk and there is no advantage really in a 30mm scope other then providing extra turret adjustment.
Light has more to do with objective diameter and glass quality.
I didn't like my 3-10 swarovski due to the reticle being a bit to fine for my liking but otherwise it was a brilliant scope, I'd also give a big thumbs up to the 3-10x50 Kahles, great scope that one.

After reading everyone's input; I have decided to go down to the 1" size optic and would like your suggestions once again, same budget, just smaller tube size. Thank You!!

The Zeiss is now sold, so I would move to the Swarovski Z3 which is a very good scope. I have several of them. https://www.eurooptic.com/swarovski-z3- ... 59031.aspx

You will not go wrong with this:

especially at this price.
Magnus is the top of the Leica range. I have Swarovski, Zeiss Diavari, Leupold. Meopta and Leica ERi line. The Leicas are my favorite glass.

I have a couple Leupold VXR line scopes and love them. Clear, nice firedot reticle options, hair under $500
