Guys,

I ordered the aforementioned Meopta scope from B&H Photo in NYC about 6-7 weeks ago, and just today got notice that it’s being shipped (it had been on back order). So, I think it’s finally hitting our shores. It sounds like it’ll be a good scope for airguns, too - it’s even capable of handling the recoil from “springer” airguns (which can be tough on scopes). Here’s a write up on it:

I have gone a different route for my R8 Rimfire kit.
I was lucky enough to pick up an unused Docter classic 6x42 still in the box.
This is one of my favourite scopes as it weighs a mere 360 grams, is very short, and still has a 42mm objective and high quality lenses. I am currently having the parallax adjusted to 50 metres.
This will make a fine lighter setup for walking and shooting small game.

All anyone ever used to have on a 22lr where I grew up was a fixed 6x or 4x scope.
They still seem perfect to me. 👍

I’m trying to choose a scope for a 22 LR barrel on a Blaser R8. The centerfire barrels will wear Swarovski Z8i with BTF elevation turrets.

Key things for me are something that is fairly lightweight, able to have correct parallax and focus at close distances (50m or less), and some way of compensating for bullet drop (whether that be ballistic turrets or a reticle).

Open to first or second focal plane, but don’t want a 1FP with high magnification as then the reticles are too thin at lower magnifications. Magnification of 9x to 15x on the top end should be plenty.

Budget is flexible. Happy to hear suggestions regardless of price.

On the shortlist I have:

Meopta Optika5 2.5-10x42 Rimfire ZPlus (25mm tube, 2FP, ballistic reticle, capped turrets, min parallax 10m, weight 590g)

ZEISS Conquest V4 4-16x44 with ASV (30mm tube, 2FP, various reticle options, ASV ballistic turret option, min parallax 10m, weight 640g)

Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 P BT (25mm tube, 2FP, duplex reticle with ballistic turrets, min parallax 50m, weight 450g)

Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 F1(30mm tube, 1FP, MRAD reticle and exposed ballistic turrets, min parallax 25m, weight 850g)

What are your recommendations?
I just ordered one of these to try out

Meopta Optika5 2.5-10x42 Rimfire ZPlus (25mm tube, 2FP, ballistic reticle, capped turrets, min parallax 10m, weight 590g)

Been told to expect delivery sometime later in the year.

If this scope doesn’t cut it for range work….then I’ll probably try the V4 4-16 x 44.

If I do get into serious LR stuff 🙈 then I’ll bite the bullet and go Voodoo and NF.

Hi Rod, just wondering if you have had a chance to test the Meopta out yet?
I would be interested in your opinion?

No mate. It hasn’t arrived at QGE. Been told that it should be here by December. I’ll let you know when I get it home.

Probably not a huge issue but still annoying as that’s one of the main reasons I chose this scope.

Anyone had a chance to use theirs yet?
Yep Zeroed it in on the 243 barrel and will put the other one on the 223 barrel later on. Fantastic scope for just over a K delivered. :handgestures-thumbup:
How are you guys going with your Zeiss 4-16x44 scopes?
Are you still happy with them?

Running mine on the.223 barrel and happy with it. But I wouldn’t recommend it for a.22 rimfire.

I’m still waiting for delivery of the Meopta .

parallax adjustment only goes down to 50 meters. That wouldn't ordinarily be an issue, but I'm using it for SSAA Field Rifle and want it to go down to 25 yards.

I think I am going to buy one, 50 metres is low enough for me.

Just an update on my continued Rimfire scope search.
I did order a meopta optica5 4-20x44, but after fitting it, I was dissatisfied with a couple of things. I could not get the scope back enough to give me comfortable eye relief. Also when using 1” low rings , the saddle mount levers interfered badly with the scope turret. Optically it was good. Anyway I have sold it.
I was going to go for the Zeiss V4 4-16x44, but as others have mentioned it interferes with the saddle mount when useing low rings, which I prefer to use if possible.
So I have just ordered something completely different for me.
A Vixen 4-16x44 with side focus and BDC turret. I am hoping this will suit the R8 Rimfire platform much better.
Some key facts.
$529 delivered.
Made in Japan.
1 inch tube.
Adjustable parallax from 20m to infinity.
94mm eye relief.
Very light and compact.
I think these scopes are worth a look fellas, good price and great reviews . Most reviews claim that they are as clear and bright as much more expensive scopes.

That vixen might be a great choice for my hornet barrel, what's it like when there's glare?

Not sure yet, but reviews are very positive.
After trolling through hundreds of reviews, most people place it between a VX3 and a euro, Zeiss/ Swarovski/ Schmidt etc...
But the price is extremely fair.
Errol Mason is, or used to, import them and those that owned them usually liked them very much.
They make a nice 2-8 for a fair price that would be ideal for a Hornet.

I like 16x when spotlighting as it let's me be very precise when headshooting with the little hornet, and that thing loves to head shoot.
Any more power and it's too hard to track their heads, especially with the motor running, but I find 16x just perfect.
Normally 2-7 or I guess a 2-8 is prefect for a stalking rifle, but with the hornet I like to put one at the base of the ear and they don't do the job on rabbits or foxes out at the 200-250m mark.
Not with my eyes anyway.
But that hornet wears a 2-7x36 Kahles when shooting during the day.

I just phoned the gun shop for an update on my order for the Meopta Optika5 2.5-10x42 Rimfire ZPlu.......apparently still in transit from Europe. ETA ...Minimum of 5 to 6 weeks

Rod

edit:

to be fair ...when I ordered the scope back in June I was advised that the ETA would probably be December 2021. Looks like February 2022 is more realistic. oh well.
