Saw an old British 375 mauser that had been modernized with a fiberglass stock, silencer and big 3-18x56 scope. The internet goons lost their mind.

Magnification.... the topic of more magnification is required for accuracy can open up a few heated discussions around here.Gamsjagd wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 4:44 pm I think it is an American safari client concept. They feel as though the 375 is a big boomer and put a 1-4 or 1-5 on it and think that anyone who puts a 3-9 or Jehosphat forbid it a 3-15x56 is less than classy.
I am one of those that doesn't get worried about what others do.
Also old enough with failing eyes and 450-20 vision in both eyes that I like a hell of a lot more magnification.
anyway.....IMO high magnification is not required for accuracy. In the field it's nice to have if you're head shooting rabbits at 300 yards.....but on a biggame hunting rifle.....high magnification, IMO, is not an advantage.
I'm happy to be the odd one out

I would have disagreed with you 6 months ago but since I tried lower mag with good glass and wider field of view…
I’m shooting better groups and have quicker target acquisition in a hunting situation. Formerly used 5-30/5-25/2.5-28—now using 1:7-13 and 2.3-18. I actually like the 1:7-13 best.
I will not go back to higher unless targets were my main activity.
Not to say this is right, yet I’ve tried it both ways and this is much friendlier…….

Either of the scopes you are considering would be great. Personally I would want a rail mount z8i 1-8x24 or 1.7-13.3x42.

I find anything above 14x in hot environments or in mist or rain really hurts your sight picture.
The only scope I have that's bigger then a 2-7 is a 3-18 Z6 on my hornet barrel.
Even then most of the time it never goes above 14x.
I find they generally help when shooting on a range, but for hunting game the loss of FOV, scope bounce and sight picture makes them more of a hindrance then a help.
I don't begrudge anyone that does use one but it's definitely not my preferred brand of vodka.

I have Zeiss trifocal lenses implants in my eyes and threw my glasses in the bin. That was about 3 yrs ago. Improved my hunting vision drastically

Best money invested in optic. I did the same action, about 12 years ago.

I got me some holiday lasic surgery, that's definitely been a hell of a help.
Now I can see all the deer that see me 1st.
