Hillbilly shopping.
280gm of yeast.
5kg cracked corn.
33kg of RAW sugar.
1kg barley malt.
And a 20lt pot to cook it in.
That's gunna make 100lt of mash resulting in 20lt of Speedys Corn Likker.
Maybe more, but I do realize now that rum is much simpler to make.
And I found a home brew place that can do me 25kg bags of wheat and rye malt.

I hope you got a pair of suspenders and a banjo while you were there...

Re: Hillbilly shopping.
I've got half the corn boiled in the fat pot, off heat and the malt added and the second half heating in the new pot.
I will have 100lt of mash ready to start the magic by this evening.

I’m so far behind in this discipline. I am ashamed to admit that I have never manufactured a single drop of alcohol.

Re: Hillbilly shopping.
I may have been a little heavy handed with the corn, it swelled up a bunch but should settle down, it certainly smells sweet, now to boil up 10kg of sugar, fill it up and seal it good after it's finished breathing.
I definitely went a little over budget, all I was going to do is buy a bigger still so I could run my 20lt normal mash in one run instead of 4.
Now I've upped the fermentation bin from 20lt to 100lt and bought a second 20lt pot and just got back from bunnings to get some copper pipe end connectors as I went to increase the copper in the system and tweak it a bit.
But it sure is fun.

Re: Hillbilly shopping.
Just boiled up 60lt of water with 30kg of raw sugar and topped it up with 20lt of water and started yeast, now to sit back and let the magic happen.
The mini tank should be singing in a couple of days.
5 gallon batches sure are a lot less work, that's for damn sure.

Re: Hillbilly shopping.
One of my goals when I got my own place was to set up a proper full size still.
Seemed like as good a time as any and my mates keep taking bottles home with them every time they cost so it's practical too.
