My poor boy
I woke up this morning and my blue boy didn't want to move, I had to carry him outside and when I got him to move this is what happened.

Strait to the vet and at the end of the day and $800 later I get some puppy anti inflammatory pain pills and get told if hes not better in a week come back.
Not much help.

Re: My poor boy
Some times when a dog has poor controls like that, it can be because they have eaten something moldy, or food that contains nuts that are moldy.

Poor little bugger. A bit surprised all he got was pain/anti inflamatories - and for 800 bucks - but wada I know. He didn't get bitten by something? Looked a bit like one of our dogs after she was tagged by a snake. I know your snakes wouldn't just make him wobbly but, just a thought. Hope he perks up soon.

Re: My poor boy
The same thing happened with my daughters little dog a couple months ago. I picked him up and had him at the vet first thing in the morning so she could go to work. By the end of the day we came away with some anti inflammatories, and pain killers. They said he might have just pulled a muscle in he's back, or something like that. It was obvious he was in great pain. The next day he was fine. Hope you have the same luck. Cost me about $750.

Not good Speedy,
Has he maybe been bitten by redback or had a chew on a Cain toad?
How is he this morning ?

Re: My poor boy
He pulled up a lot better this morning, he's walking on his own and even cocked his leg.
Vet guesses he might have a blood clot pushing on his spine as theres no obvious sign of pain.
They did x-rays and and a bunchbof bloods, no sign of poison/venom and no bite marks.
Hes on the chain now to stop him playing with the whippet and with luck he might pull up better this arvo.

Re: My poor boy
Im glad he's going to be ok, I just wish it didn't cost me what I put aside for a scope on the 6mm br to find out.
Still its not like the old farm days where i could just look at a dog and go "I'll give it a couple of days and if it don't get better on its own, boom"
But he's me boy and he's coming on nice as a hunting dog and even retrieved a couple of geese now.

Re: My poor boy
My daughters dog had some macadamia nuts a few years ago. Result was a trip to the vet and a few hundred dollar bill. Dog went onto anti inflammatory medication and a couple if days later she was back to normal.Corjack wrote:Some times when a dog has poor controls like that, it can be because they have eaten something moldy, or food that contains nuts that are moldy.
Hope your blue dog makes a quick recovery.
Cheers

Re: My poor boy
Same here, my dream is to one day have him and others like him made "approved" deer hounds
But he has got great at blood trailing wounded geese so much so he finds more then I've shot
But I think he might make a damn good trailing hound, when I move south I'm going to devote some real time into training him.

It's great to see he is coming good.
We treat our pets now as part of the family, one of the better kids and the vets know.
The vets don't even tap you on the shoulder any more after bending you over and having their way.
