I've went back and forth on what to get to compliment my 8x57R (K95).....the 7x65R seems like a perfect all round cartridge for almost all of my hunting. I'll keep my 8mm for the bigger animals and treat my self to a 6.5x57R down the track once my lad is old enough to use the rifle.

With the 7x65R I could push mono's fast enough to give reliable expansion at sensible ranges when meat hunting, and with cup & core I can take advantage of the accuracy of the K95 to stretch the legs out a bit.

I pay $64/20 for 8x57R in RWS ($320AUD/100)...considering how long 100 cases would last, and how much a K95 costs in comparison, I don't think it should be a deciding factor. You'll probably spend more on coffee each year without so much as an afterthought.

I now like the rimmed cartridges and will stick with them...at first I was keen to part ways with any thing with a rim, but I do like sometimes just being able to tip the round clear of the breech if I'm in a hurry.

I love my K95.

Go rimmed - 7mm rimmed. Both the 7x57r or 7x65r will do the job just fine.

My K95 is in 270 win which is never a bad choice.

If some stage in the future the I decide to move on the M03 and get a single shot I would think 8x 57 like dinger would be the ticket, cause because it can handle most things without a lot of fuss and bother. Having said that, a smaller cal in the 6 to 6.5 mm would be useful.

Anything from the 270 to the 8x57 should be fine for just about anything.

Yep, I'm going round and round in circles, so I may as well go with my first choice of 7x57R. With a 162 amax ( I've got 400 of them) I can shoot animals out to 500yds and should work fine on closer animals. Or I can use something like a 160 accubond on closer stuff.

Well paid the deposit today. Made one last change and ordered the 7x65R. Also ordered brass and dies as well. Now just have to wait 5-6 months.
Also selling a few scopes and hope to get a Swarovski Z3 3-10x42 BRV.

Great to hear. I can guarantee you will love it. It will bring a smile to your face every time you lift it to your shoulder. Men will become envious and women will buy you drinks.

That's the tough bit about new Blaser's, the waiting

The tough bit about buying secondhand Blaser's, not buying when you don't need them

Now I'm worried I'm going to wind up buying a bloody K95 to add to the mix.

I don't own a K95 (yet) but do own a 7x64. You have made the right choice over the 7x57. I'm sure you have run the figures through ballistic software to see the extra capacity helps launching the 162gr projectiles.

I look forward to the review when you receive delivery.

I would suggest that you made a good choice going with the 7 x 65R.
I use this calibre in my 95 and it's hard to fault as to covering all the bases here in NZ.
Not being much of a reloader I use Norma and Hornady factory ammo with pleasing results.
