K95 varmint barrel?

Post by SPEEDY » Mon Oct 07, 2019 11:10 pm

I'm looking at a varmint barrel to round out the K95, I'm am leaning towards a 22 hornet rechamberedto 22K hornet, but a 222rem would do to or go classic with a 5.6x50R.
The only reason to go up from the hornet is to comply with kangeroo culling requirements.
They get a little confusing when it comes to the hornet.

I have a 22 hornet and a 222 barrel I like them both. I could get by with one or the other, but hell why not have more fun.

5.6x52R? I've only ever shot paper with one but it's a nice round. Not a lot of bullets available..... I guess the 5.6x50R Mag is much the same performance wise and more bullet options. OTOH, I shot a lot of skippys with a standard Hornet when I was a kid...

The 5.6x50R magnum seems the best option, but I still like the 22K hornet.
I think practicality will push me towards the 5.6x60R despite any nostalgia I feel for the little hornet.

I don’t know anything about the 5.6x50r seeing as it is for all practical purposes nonexistent here in the land of the free. I have a 22 hornet. Have had a 222, regrettably parted with it, but have remedied that mistake by currently having another on the way. For an all arounder here in my neck of the woods the 222 is better as it is legal for deer as well. Like MM I plan to keep both in the closet.

BTW I just today bought another K95. A Prestige 3 barrel set. 222, 243, and 30-06. Yay me. I already had a 243 barrel so will be selling the extra one soon. Plan to keep the rest. That will bring my K95 options up to 22 hornet, 222, 243, 270, 308, and 30-06. A very American arsenal for sure.
