I have both a 9.3x74R and a 7x57R….
I’ve shot two coyotes over 300 and a good 10 point around 180 and the 7x57R performed well on all. Very accurate and fun to reload for. I’ll give the 9.3 a try in late season but I’m on a roll with this 7x57R. It’s a great round. Might just be my new favorite…..

The 7x57R does sound interesting. Have you had any issues finding ammo or brass and reloading dies in the US?
Also can the K95 handle loads equivalent to full power 7x57?

Thanks

No problem on brass….ammo depends on what you want. I purchased 200 pieces of brass so should be good for a very long time. Picked up at Eurooptic. I have loaded to max grain using H4350—running 2572 FPS average. Dies were not a problem either….and yes on the K95 handling it. It handles the 9.3X74r no problem….so 7x57r is a buttercup in comparison.

I run 175 gr with 44 grs of H4350 @2470 FPS, no issues.

I was able to procure 300 pieces of brass and dies while living in the Canadian Arctic, all found on the internet of course. So I'm sure it's possible anywhere else. ;)

Thanks for the information, I'm going to give my 6.5 CM a go for now, shoots great so far, still working up a load for it. But the allure of a stutzen is still haunting me. I am going to do more research on the rimmed cartridges, so I am in a better position to act quickly if the right stutzen becomes available. You all are a great source of experience and information.

I would hold out for a stutzen barrel instead of buying a whole other gun.

Here's a 243 stutzen barrel that matches my newer style K95 fairly well. It fit just fine, too.

That looks beautiful! Now you really have me wanting one. For now I think I am content to do as you are saying and try to hold out for a barrel and complete fore-end.

How do the iron sights line up with the newer style stock? Do you have to scrunch you face down hard to use the iron sights or are they OK? I don't have iron's on my newer style K95, but it seems like the comb height is about right for scope use and was wondering if the iron sights are easily usable.

The newer style irons work fine with the new straight stock (my 7x57R barrel has irons).

These older style irons are unusable though, unfortunately. You can't get your cheek low enough, as im sure they were intended to be used with the hogsback stock.

I doubt I'll be using the irons so it isn't much of an issue.

Didn't know that they have several styles of iron sights. Is there an easy way to tell them apart?

New style - note the white front sight.

Old style - red front sight

Thanks, they do look like the new ones sit a lot higher.

And an octagon barrel on your stutzen, I'm really jealous.
