Sauer 3000 16ga slugs?
I just took the plunge on a 7x65r/16ga model manufactured in 1961. Has anyone tried the 2.5” or 2.75” Brenneke slugs, or perhaps the Federal slugs in a similar gun? I’d think the so called “magnum” 2.75 Brenneke slugs would be safe in something manufactured in 1961, but does anyone have contrary information? My lease has an abundance of wild hogs, so any sit for a turkey is likely to devolve in hog zappage.

No but they definitely work in 12ga, 16ga,shouldn't be a, problem.
The only problem that you might find is with regulation, but at close distance that won't be a problem.
61 should be plenty safe for slugs as long as the gun is in solid working condition.
I'd definitely take some to the range and see how they shoot out to 50 yards.

I ordered a couple of boxes of both slugs and buckshot. We’ll see what we see, but it’s not the end of the world if neither works out.

Only way to know for sure.
Do you know what the gun is choked?

It’s choked IC/IM, a very happy pairing. The obsolete scope seems to be the only real negative, but it’s supposed to be clear and functional.

It should definitely be fine for slugs in the I/C but while safe it might not be particularly accurate from the I/M.
But there's still only one way to know.
I don't usually shoot slugs out of anything tighter then modified, but that's an accuracy thing more then a safety thing as foster and brenneke slugs are usually safe from full chokes. But always check the box the slugs come in to be sure.
