No better way to see and experience the arctic than on a muskox hunt

Great pics and looks like a great hunt Matt!! Congrats!!

You do realize this is probably the first Musk Ox taken with a K95? Congratulations on a successful and unique hunt.

Re: Kipplauf hunting
Quite the achievement then.
Nice old bull with plenty of character, I was always a little curious as to how a K95 would go in those extreme cold conditions.
Apparently just fine.
I'm soft and I don't care.

Re: Kipplauf hunting
I got my K95 to hunt with, I care for it but am not afraid to use it. They are very capable sturdy rifles even though they can appear delicate to some people. Due to the extreme cold I had to keep the K95 outside in its case the entire hunt. If you bring it in the cabin the condensation is extreme and will freeze when taken back outside. It seems to have survived quite well however when I get home I think I am going to send the receiver down to Blaser USA for a little fluff and buff , it has earned it.
Bob, most hunts I go on the guides/ outfitters have never seen or contemplated a rifle like a K95 until they see it in action then they think it is cool. So maybe it is the first Muskox taken with one. Next maybe elk or Newfoundland for moose.

Re: Kipplauf hunting
Curious—what caliber did you use on that frozen beast?
I may have missed it earlier but I can’t find it.

Re: Kipplauf hunting
I shot the muskox with my 300 Weatherby mag barrel, the shot was 53 yards. I had a wolf and wolverine tag but didn’t see any and my thinking was that those shots if an animal seen would be long. I also took my 22 hornet barrel along for small game hunting.

Got a hind. A nice freezer filler. Was suppose to be a roar hunt, plenty of roaring but the stags were hiding.

Re: Kipplauf hunting
Morning All,
After what seems like an eternity, I was finally able to draw blood with my K95 in 8x57 IRS. Shot was at about 300m on shooting sticks, shooting 200gr Swift A frame @ about 2500 fps at the muzzle. First shot broke the front leg, second shot was for insurance. From the bullet pictures you will be able to see the first bullet worked quite hard and lost the most weight, will weigh when back home. Both bullets where found underneath the skin on the opposite side
Have a good one.
