Utility of a 222 Rem 9.3X74R B97 Barrel Set
I have a chance to buy a new in box B97 Barrel set in 222 Remington and 9.3X74R at about two thirds of retail. I already have a double 9.3X74R barrel set and a 12GA over 7X65R. I'm not exactly sure what I would use the 222/9.3 barrel for that I couldn't use the double 9.3 for. If it's small game I could still shoot it with the big bore with a solid bullet. Most of the time, even during deer season, the 12/7 X65R barrel is what I use. What hunting scenario is involved with European hunting that prompts manufacturers to build such a combination?

Re: Utility of a 222 Rem 9.3X74R B97 Barrel Set
I have a 222/9.3x74R barrel set that I purchased because I thought it was really cool and at that time I really wanted a 9.3x74R just because. I can think of no real utility for it in the states and especially in Ohio. I have taken it deer hunting in Kentucky 9.3 for deer and 222 for coyotes. I shot a deer or two with it no coyotes yet. I am going to work on a 222 load with an X bullet so I have a combo deer coyote load to use with the 9.3. I recently read an article about a Scandinavian hunter who uses a 9.3/5.6x50r combo for Moose and Capercallie hunting and thinks it is perfect for that. I think of mine as two single shots in one.

I would only buy a set for fox and kangaroos. However i believe the 7x57R with is a better compromise and then a 12g handles everything else.

I think you would like it. I love the 9.3/22 hornet combo of my BD 14.

Yeah I tend to agree.Corjack wrote:I think you would like it. I love the 9.3/22 hornet combo of my BD 14.
I wouldn't underestimate the usefulness of a small bore.
I have 12g x 12g x 222 Remington drilling which I have owned for 30 years.
The 222 is very useful when you want to keep the noise down. Great for hare, rabbit and foxes at ranges a shotgun cannot reach.
A smallbore does not scare every other animal away for miles as well. This I think is one of the best advantages.
A 222 loaded with a very mild charge does not make much fuss but stll gets the job done.

Its very simple ask yourself two questions.
1, is it cool.
2, do you want it.
If your answer is yes then I've alwsys found that you can soon find a use for it.
