Thinking over a few things.

The paperwork looks easy enough, thanks Bob. My 308 K95 would be perfect for the USA suggestions.

It's a bloody long way from the US to AUS/NZ and vice versa.

Getting the permit to import your firearm into the US is pretty painless. I reckon the hardest part of any overseas travel (for an Australian) with a firearm is getting the Australian Export permit. And it's good for a year and unlimited entries within that year.

My last US permit had a turn around time of 3 weeks. I think they suggest that you allow 12 weeks to be sure of getting it.
