Will removing the rubber rib affect accuracy on B97

Post by Vol423 »

I have a double rifle barrel set in 9.3X74R for my B97. Aesthetically, I would prefer the rubber rib between the barrels not be there. Has anyone tested accuracy with and without the rib on a double rifle?

Good question. I have not. I doubt it will make any difference under 250m on game.

There are a number of Buds that have removed it, I have not. I think they do it for aesthetics. I have not seen anyone claim a change in accuracy either negative or positive.

I run both my BBF’s with the rib removed and accuracy is excellent

Makes it easy to wipe down if the rubber is removed.

Yep. The rubber gets all sorts of cleaning gunk under it. Plus it gets in the way of taping over the muzzles. Mine hasn't gone back since I noticed it's propensity for gathering cleaning gunk.

Mine shoots nicely without the spacer/rib but with it inserted the regulation is messed up. My interpretation is that I made a mistake when I regulated the bbls and will redo it once the snow leaves the range. I mention it only to say it can have an impact....

Anything touching the barrel will have an impact, but if the bit touching has a constant force then it won't mess up accuracy.
Kind of like the pressure points in the fore end of a Remington m700, especially with a thin barrel.
I'm soft and I don't care.

There is only problem when barrels are regulated in that way so rubber is affecting spread.
If there is still big enough gap between barrels then accuracy should be the same with or without rubber.
