Merkel K3 barrel change and headspace

Post by RadScorpius »

Hi guys, New here. I recently bought a Merkel K3 in 30-06. I’m curious if I replace the barrel how do I headspace it?

I have a K1 that came with two barrels (222 and 30-06) I later picked up a used barrel in 9.3x74R that fit and closed no problem. Last year I purchased a K3 Stutzen in 308 and none of my barrels fit on the new frame but the 308 barrel fits on the original frame just fine and shoots well. So you might get lucky you might not. Blaser USA will tell you to send the rifle in with both barrels to be fit but in my experience if the barrel goes on and shuts without having to fiddle with the top snap lever you are good to go. If I was ordering a new barrel I would specify that they match the serial number on the barrel to the frame in case you ever take it on an international hunt.

Thanks, so they should be interchangeable but may require fitting.
