K95 Longrange practice
We had a beautiful day today so I took my K95 out for some longrange practice.
My K95 is a Standard model chambered in 7x65R. The load is a 162 a-max with 57.5gr 2213sc for 2750 fps. The scope is a Leupold VX6 2-12x42.
I did have one interesting thing happen, after my second shot the action wouldn't close. I ended up taking the Jaeger block out several times before I could get the action closed. Had no further issues for the next 8 shots.
Sound on video has been fixed.

Wow, that's some distances for that little rifle and cartridge for sure.

I've replaced the video so it now has sound. Thanks for the comments, I was really stoked with how well the K95 shot, especially not using a bipod etc like I have with rifles in the past.

Nice. You don’t shoot that K95 like a Blaser novice!

Just about any rifle these days can be used for LR work, all that is needed is accuracy and consistency.
The K95 definitely meets those requirements.

I'm soft and I don't care.

Great shooting, looks like you have just about got your speeds worked out. But that dam bloody wind will get you every time. With out a doubt the hardest thing to work out. Well done
Measure it, when it’s on the deck

Re: K95 Longrange practice
The valley we shoot has tricky wind, often a cross wind for the first half then a head/tail wind for the second half. The lack of wind at 550yds was surprising.

Cheers Tim, I remember your post from a while back about shooting rests. I had the fore-end resting on the pack and a rolled up sleeping bag under the butt. It was very stable, but the shots were essentially horizontal and shooting from a flat shooting rest.

Re: K95 Longrange practice
I use the same rest set up as you with my left hand resting lightly on the front bell of the scope. I've been told by a few experts that this position isn't repeatable but I have not had any problems with it. I haven't used my 7mm mag barrel at the ranges that you are practising at but I can consistently hit clay targets at 400 yards, I'm very happy with that sort of accuracy. I really need to head south to get better utilisation of the 7 mm barrel. At the moment up here all my shots are inside 40 yards. Tahr next year with a bit of luck.Blasernovice wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 3:13 am Cheers Tim, I remember your post from a while back about shooting rests. Re: K95 Longrange practice
Tim, I switched my hold after the first lot of targets. I ended up having my front hand under the foreend. I have my palm down resting on the pack, holding the forend with my thumb and first finger. My hand is not between the forend and pack. If you are hitting clay targets at 400 yds you will have no problems further out. I'm keen to get out after some tahr in the Oct school hols if the weather is good.
Joe338ST, yep love long range shooting. My main hunting is open tops, with shots mostly in the 300-400yd range.
