Over / under rifles?
Hello guys.
Ive been looking arround to buy my first double rifle.
But i want it to be over /under not side by side.
I dont seem to find much options. Only the Beretta SOO6 which the price is ridiculous.
Anyone has sugestions as to what other brand i can look for?

Re: Over / under rifles?
What calibre are you after? For the smaller stuff, up to say 9.3x74R, there are a few options like Browning, Beretta, Merkel, just to name a few. Cost with doubles is relative....and completely different (and far higher) to both shotguns and bolt actions rifles of comparable brand and quality.
I picked up a s/h Beretta S689 Gold Sable for sensible money, and the Silver Sables are better value still if you want a O/U.

Fausti make a beautiful U/O 9.3x74, although it will come down to if you want adjustable or fixed regulation on one, if you want adjustable then IMO they are slightly less good looking but very handy.
I'm soft and I don't care.

Hi I bought a Fabarm Asper 9.3x74 earlier this year at a very reasonable price (used but excellent condition) and I am really impressed, light, very pointable and recoil negligible (although I am 230lbs), load developement has both shots in less than an inch at 50 yards using a 285 grain bullet. Can't wait to start the boar season in October.

Wow i didnt know about those Beretta’s. Do they still make them?
The Blaser is beautiful but they only make it in combination shotgun / rifle right?

Merkel and Heym is very nice bu also very expensive. Ill check out the rest now. Thanks guys

Biebs was trying to sell a Blaser O/U in 30-06 a while back for a very reasonable price. You might check with him if that is of interest.

Blaser do combinations where you can have 2 different rifle calibres. Largest calibre is 9.3x74 though. Check the link I posted in my first comment

No, the Beretta Gold and Silver Sables are discontinued, and were expensive (More than a basic Merkel for sure) new. However, they come up regularly s/h and are very good value when they do.jorge saca wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 8:47 am Wow i didnt know about those Beretta’s. Do they still make them?

I doubt you’ll get a 450NE on a O/U, and the largest I saw was a 450/400 from Verney Carron.....and if you regard Merkel as expensive, well, don’t look at those.
For the larger cals, the basic SxS Merkels are about the best value out there.....we have a few at the club.

Re: Over / under rifles?
To answer your question Blaser sell u/o double rifle barrels to fit the BBF95/97 action. These can be either classic configuration- skinny barrel soldered joints, or modern with one barrel sleeved to aid user adjustable regulation and thermal stability- ie no poi shift as barrels heat up. They are more for the driven boar market than the African safari market and hence 9,3x74R is the largest chambering.
As for DG caliber u/o doubles, you will not find a lot of standard on the shelf offerings. Krieghoff made their Teck DB in .458wm, and probably offered .375h&h barrels as an optional extra if you had the right $$$$s.
Last time I looked at their price list it was only for the classic sxs, and when it comes to buying a double for a buff hunt, for more than the hunt costs, I’ll stick to using my tired old .375 R93 and book the hunt thank you

Re: Over / under rifles?
CZ have released an O/U, only in 9.3x74R in Australia.
Presumably a 30-06 will be available in the US. User adjustable, quite a high comb for an optical sight of some sort and high mounted open sights. It comes up very well for me, fortunately the single trigger rules it out.
