What barrel combo?
I have considered getting an extra barrel set for my BBF97 in 20/9.3X74.
If you purchased a new BBF97 today what gage/caliber would you select?

In my opinion, my Tracker length 12 ga/308 is as close to perfection as Blaser currently offers, but I am intrigued by the 9.3x74 too.

My BBF is a 308/20ga. I consider it perfect for what and when I would use it.
If I did not have my D99's, or I decided to get an extra set of bbls for my BBF I would get a set of Tracker [the shorter 52mm instead of the 60mm] in 9,3x74R 12ga.
If I did not want to pay for another fore end the 20ga would be almost just as good.
The 12 does have a little advantage when it comes to slugs, and even a bigger advantage with buckshot.
I have taken a lot of game with the 9,3x74R it is one of my favorite cartridges.

Re: What barrel combo?
A set of double rifle barrels in 9,3x74R would be a good choice as well.
If you already have a rifle shotgun combo, this might even be a better choice, depending on what additional hunting "duties" you plan for your BBF.
I can say, that if you hunt where fur and feathered game is in season at the same time, ansd you use a combo gun a few times and like it, it is hard to leave camp with only a rifle, or only a shotgun... When you can have "both" with you all the time.

Re: What barrel combo?
I hefted Alekos BS97 the other day in 5.6X52/9.3X74 and it was rather heavy. I would say that was because of the small 22 hole in the upper barrel sleeve, if it was both barrels 9.3 it would probably be at least a pound lighter.

Where Aleko lives and for the game he hunts the 2 different rifle barrels he has chosen make since for him.
However for me, I find rifle/shotgun barrels the best choice.

12ga / 9.3x74R would be a great choice for Northern Idaho. I'm a big fan of the 20ga, but for here I would like to be able to shoot 12 ga slugs on Elk/Bear and buckshot on wolves or mountain lions.

The company I work for relies heavily on the holiday season, which has been horrible for the last 2 years. I'm waiting to see what November/December is going to do before I commit to spending much more. I also need to buy a truck/SUV of some sort as I'm presently pulling my boat with a Subaru.retrieverman wrote:Well, quit talking about it and get you one!DocHolyrood wrote:12ga / 9.3x74R would be a great choice for Northern Idaho.

I completely understand. From October to March is supposed to be my biggest time of the year, but last year, my major customer file bankruptcy on December 1st and pretty much killed my business for the year. I still waiting to collect the $8000 that they owed me when they filed. This year is not shaping up to be much better.DocHolyrood wrote:The company I work for relies heavily on the holiday season, which has been horrible for the last 2 years. I think everyone is in the same boat, I watched 2 african hunts sell at my SCI fund raiser for 2,000 for 10 day daliy rate and 1500 toward trophy fees.
I had to do some pricing ajustments to my business, it has been a tough year. I'm sure we will have to lay off some folks by January , or ajust some expences some place . I'll know when we start our new year on Oct 1.

Larry,
You OK? Give me a call sometime this week!
You can't let a little muscle like the heart get in the way of your hunting! You've got an elk mount to put up in your trrophy room!
