Gearing up the combo's
Well,
I've had a pretty crappy end of the year--I will not go into all of it, but the good part are things are looking up
I'm getting ready for hunting season and going to try to do most of my hunting with my combo guns.
By coachsells, shot with DSC-S980 at 2009-11-03
I'm using my doctor optic sight and a sawaro 1.25x4 rail on my D99 duo-- its shooting both barrels right at 3/4 of an inch with the scope, and 1.5 inches at 100 with the red dot (doctor optic) sight!
Did some horse trading a few days ago and ended up the owner of a BBF 97 Luxus with grade 5 wood in a 12g/22 hornet. Pretty nice gun-- not excatly the caliber/gauge choices that I'd have made but when you think about it-- what a great little combo. I mounted a ultralight Leupold 2.5X in QD mounts--will see how she shoots on friday.

The 22 Hornet BBF will make a great turkey gun.

Not good with the remington factory 45 grain "hollar" points, about 2.5- 3 inches inches at 100 yards. The Hornady 35 grain V-max factorys shot much better around 1.5 to 2 inches at 100 yards.
I'm starting my reloading--to see if it gets any better. I wish GS custom were easier to get I'd like some of there 35 grain banded copper bullets, be a better deer bullet--I dont think the twist is right for a bullet heavier than 45 grain, that is why I have ruled out barnes 45 tsx bullets.

The 45 X bullet might work, you never know till you try it...
By seating it out and upping the powder charge, you might be able to drive it fast enough to stabilize it.

Re: Gearing up the combo's
Damn I love combo guns, one of these days I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get me a 20ga X 20ga X 7X57 rimmed
But thats a damn nice pair and I know that I would really love them, or a pair just like them anyway

I'm soft and I don't care.

Chuck, just buy 505Eds D99 and find out when it gets into Australia
It'll save me from buying it
