Blaser S2 Accuracy Expections?

Post by mchughcb »

Today I caught up with Blasermania after promising him a few months ago to have a crack at regulating his Blaser S2 Luxus in 9.3x74R. Having never regulated a S2 before I was not quite sure what I had to do but I assumed a few things - wrong. The only way to regulate the S2 is with the muzzle adjustment as it doesn't have a coarse adjustment like the BBF. Regulation was carried out using the Hornady factory ammo with the 286gr interlocks and a S&B 1-4x24 iluminated scope.

The first two shots at 25m had a them on target but about 15cm high and 15cm right. I wound down and fired again. This was half way. Wound down again and fired with the left barrel just over the centre. Fired the right barrel and it was an inch to the right - beauty then I moved straight back to the 100m target.

The unadjustable barrel (left) shot 15cm high and 10cm to the right. The adjustable barrel shot spot on (right). So I wound the scope and got the left barrel spot on but then the right barrel was shooting off high and to the left. So then the fun started with the allen keys trying to work out exactly how much turn moved the barrels. Eventually I got it shooting about right but then the right barrel was shooting too low so I had to wind up. Finally I got them to shoot 40mm apart at 100m and passed over to Blasermania. Blasermania waited until the barrels cooled then fired right barrel. I looked at the spotting scope, perfect 70mm high at 100m. He fires the second and it cuts the first. A one hole group  With that out of the way I then said right lets hit the 200m target. My first shot with the right barrel is perfect elevation but at 9 oclock in the 9 ring. My second shot with the left barrel hits the centre bull. Blasermania takes over. First shot right barrel is in the 10 ring at 3 oclock and the left barrel hits the centre bull. So four shots into 100mm both barrels by two shooters or 1.7MOA, three shots going 45mm or 0.78MOA at 200m for a double rifle. Outstanding with factory ammo.

Blasermania has gone home a very happy man. But admits the BBF handles better

Mate, Thanks again for helping with the regulation on the S2, I wasn't confident enough to do it myself

I'm very impressed with the group at 200 metres

Now it's time to use that accuracy in the field

Just regulated another BBF97 on a new load at 200m. These blaser doubles are the ducks guts when it comes to mid range accuracy.

My S2 shoots Hornady factory ammo in .470 Nitro, 2 shots touching at 50 yards. Andrej regulated it in San Antonio exactly like it should shoot.

I've had mine through the same hole at 100m. Great accuracy.

Hi there, I just joined the forum today mostly because I ended up with Blasermania's S2 that you guys did the work on, I need to start again as I re-scoped the unit, being very new to this type of rifle I have a series of questions that I would appreciate your comments on, took ages to track you guys down as I wanted to contact the last person to have anything to do with this particualr rifle.

I am led to beleive these rifles come already regulated at factory, I was advised by the shop to refrain doing any adjsutments, this being the case you guys had obviously found the need to fine-tune the regulating.

Seeing you have done the hard work, will I again need to regulate the unit I am using Winchester std 285 grain factory ammo.

I am every bit the same as Blasermania was, hesitant to touch something so complex and fiddly, can I commission you to do the work if required?

Any idea why the rifle was sold off, are there any specific instructions to actually doing the work, would you know the lock or grubb screw size on the adjsutment barrel, seems to be a special size, do you know the integrity of the rifle, again any comments would be welcome.

Many thanks
Gary

Hi Gary,
Welcome to the friendly blaserbuds forum. You have many questions so I will try to answer them.

1. The guns would come regulated from the factory with some RWS load with open sights at 50m.
2. The shop should stop advising anybody on regulation. I have regulated more blasers than the whole shop put together - five to be precise.
3. The S2 was regulated with Hornady 286gr factory loads. My guess is they will be very close to winchester. The only way to find out is to put your scope on it, sight in the first barrel on target at the range you need and then check with the second barrel if its close ie, less than an inch at the range you want, ie 150m etc.
4. If you wish to commission me to regulated it, I can charge the appropriate Blaser rates of one million dollars or a can of VB which ever is cheaper.
5. The rifle was traded in on a BBF97 after Blasermania tried my BBF97 he decided he liked the feel better than the S2. Its nothing but personal preference, nothing to do with the S2 peformance.
6. The grub screw size I think is small could be 0.9mm allen key. I had to buy a specialist allen key set from Japan of Ebay to do it.
7. I believe the rifle has the right integrity.

Maybe you can PM me how much they sold it for?

thanks chuck

Hello chuck, quick update....

Fitted the scope and took the S2 Sambar Stalking, we jumped 6 animals in 5 hours but hard as we tried, could not pull a shot.
Back at camp the picnic table, chairs and all the gear came out ready for a horrible time I thought, we set the target at 35 metres fired a sighter from the fixed barrel, she smacked nearly dead on but a bit low and to the right, I adjusted 4 clicks up and 2 right, waited 5 minutes and fired the second shot, dead bull's eye on the 1" square, Good a time as any to fire the adjustable and see what happens, the shot printed 6mm to the left of the last shot, it was so close that for a miunte I thought I missed totally the target ,, the 7 power scope in poor light and drizzle was making things hard, I was happy but felt it was more of a lucky shot than anything.

I decided to put the target out to 100 which proved a bit hard due to trees and shrubs, so ended up at best I can judge 96 metres, first shot which is the adjustable barrel punched a hole 1" high and a slight bit to the left, the second shot almost cut the same hole, again I thought luck, so cleaned the barrel and let her cool right down, after about 10 minutes, I again fired two shots, same result but a bit more central, 1st shot puched a neat hole near central to the 1" square, the second this time went about 8mm to the right. I let the barrels cool right down and moved to another spot to increase the range, again trees and vegitation made this hard so we only put up a 2 litre bottle of Coke, first shot smashed it off the burnt out stump, the second shot toppled the smaller 600ml Powerade bottle, good enough I thought, until a full day at Little River can be sorted, but I would be very confident to see the season out just the way she is

G'day Gary

I always wondered why you weren't a member here .
Good to see you join up .
For those who don't know Gary has owned a few Blasers before , but to my dismay he has moved to the Dark Side of Krieghoff .Gary with this rifle you must have seen the light and the error of your ways by returning to the land of Blaser :D

Will send you a email later .
