Verney-Carron Veloce?

Postby SPEEDY » Sat Aug 12, 2017 8:42 am

Anyone had a play with one of these?
They are actually going to be legal in Australia, similar firearms were made illegal due to their looking "military" or AR based, but these are sporting looking, will be faster then a lever action shotgun and they aren't being targeted as scary due to their price ensuring the market won't get flooded with them, which means the government isn't anymore afraid of them then any other firearm.

While I can't shoot more then 10 rounds out of a break action without my whole arm going numb and tingling, the gas operated unloading system should reduce the recoil for me.

They seem well made despite being French

I'm definitely sold on them, although I can't find any reviews on them in English, it is definitely a better option then a cheap Turkish lever action.
I'm really hoping they bring out a 20" barrel for chasing the pigs as well as the 28" barrel for wing shooting.

Yeah, nah had a play with one the other day and not as easy to use as seen on the youtube video, I had to tilt it a bit to cock it, I predict this will be the next Browning maral re: usedguns lol . When the 12g model hits ours shores I will have another look at it, but it won't be as fast as some may think, that's why I'm guessing it got approved for Australian conditions. One thing for sure it is very light to carry, horses for courses I guess. :handgestures-thumbup:

P.S Just had a look at the youtube clip again, what it doesn't show is you have to push the lever all the way down.

This shows it even better, it still seems better then a Turkish lever action.

And in even better news, it looks like this year's tax refund will cover the cost of buying one

From what I hear it's RRP in Australia is $3000, probably a bit steep for what it is but it's a damn sight better then an Adler.

Well that might be my 1st port of call before stocking the fridge
I did think about waiting for one to come up on used guns, but if they are anything like the Adler then the 1st shipment will be sold out, then a whole lot fo 50% mark ups on used guns until 6-7 months later the 2nd shipment arrives.
I'd rather be ready to rock for a trip back up north for goose season opening week.

On a side note, I'm am super glad that it doesn't look anything at all like the rifle version.
Tell me even by French standards, is this not the single fugglyest most horrendous looking rifle you have ever seen.
I've heard of being hit with the ugly stick, but this was carved from it

There would be no need for this silly action and it would flop if not for evil laws.

Having handled both the speed line and their pump gun, I found the pump is more natural for me to operate, as I'm just not use to operating a button on the right side of the gun with my thumb - tang safeties yes, right bolt safeties I tend not to use.

For someone use to short rifles like the R93 the speed line is excessively long, the comb is too high for the sights, the single stack mag protruding from the receiver is ungainly and then there is that thing on the muzzle that doesn't come with a removal tool and a thread protector cap the way a Ruger guide gun does.

I hope the Veloce handles more akin to an A5 or 1100 than a Speedline but there's still that thumb dexterity factor.
