F3 Sporting, The Turkey Slayer

Post by KO301 »

Just got back from turkey hunting in Nebraska at the Rackett. I was planning on hunting with my A5 but after trying a few different brands of turkey loads, I gave up because it just didn't pattern too well. I didn't drive 4.5 hours to miss turkeys so I switched to my F3 with U4 and U3 chokes. Patterned great at 50 so I took my F3 instead of A5.

First turkey was spotted 1,500 yards away while glassing a side of a hill with my Swaro El Range. Ranged it at about 1,500 yards and decided to stalk it. Got within 50 yards after about an hour of hiking and low crawling and shot a tom in the head out of a group of 3.

It rained the second day and we had not luck.

The third day, we called a group of gobblers in to about 90 yards but they didn't get any closer so I tried to crawl closer but somehow spooked a little fawn and the turkeys took off. Spotted the same group of gobblers and dropped in on top of the hill they were working their way through. Low crawled within 30 yards this time and shot the second tom. I had one more tag but I am very satisfied with this trip!

I am surprised how well the F3 worked on them turkeys XD I will be hunting a lot more often with my F3 now.

That is one of the coolest things to read on Blaserbuds, in the last couple years. Congratulations!

Can't recall ever seeing a story of someone stalking turkeys! The fact that you made it work is impressive. They are supposed to be very smart and very wary so you must have done it to perfection. Congrats on 2 nice turkeys. They are some good looking birds. You having one mounted? Mounts are pricy but they are pretty.

BTW nice to hear that the F3 had a better pattern than the A5. I'm thinking you'll be a good candidate for a F16...

Not having them here it's easy not to realize just how big them birds are, nice work.

Only on Blaserbuds

A fellow from Taiwan, living in Denver, would stalk 1450 yards, to shoot a turkey in Nebraska, with a 6000 dollar shotgun, made in Germany.

If you told this story in bar, they would accuse you of being windy.

I thought turkey hunting was supposed to be pretty passive. Sitting in a blind calling the birds in but man stalking them is so much more fun!

It was nice to find out just how tough and capable the F3 is. I think I will take it duck hunting this coming season.

I haven't seen a F16 in person but since I already have a F3, I don't see why I would want one. Maybe if they make a 26 inch barrel version of the F16 since F3 barrel cost almost as much as a F16 XD I am trying to get rid of most of my guns now. I only want to keep maybe 2 or 3 because that's all I use so I don't think I'll be buying a new gun anytime soon.

I've always preferred stalking to calling, although I have some great memories calling in deer and foxes.
But seeing something way off and then sneaking into range, wondering every slight mistake if their spooked, waiting frozen until they settle down.
It really gets the blood pumping.

I'm in the same boat, I want to have everything I want to hunt covered with my R93, bunnies, foxes, goats, pigs, deer and a 28ga for ducks and the odd hare.
There's something satisfying in the simplicity of doing more with less.
I find choose what barrel to take is better then deciding what rifle to take.
I'm soft and I don't care.
