Three Barrel Shotguns

Yesterday I managed to put a couple of boxes through a 20" Akkar 3 on clays. Whilst the 20" maybe an impediment for Olympic trap shooting in the world of hunting in thick country I found it not too bad. I would like to try a 20g model with 26" barrels which weighs the same but would be probably much better for swing and balance.

Yes that electronic thrower was randomly throwing them everywhere. I had to choose my shots with IC chokes.

I was of two minds about them, a number of fellas used them in the NT for geese but I found I could get more shots off from a double as it's a little awkward loading 3 shell's.
Then they brought out the Adler and all the various other new options the were lighter and got more rounds off I really saw no point in them anymore.

I will however say the 20" at least for me shoulders and points really well, and I do like them for that reason.

Where legal to use 3 barrels and forced to use heavy 3 inch magnum steel I can see where the extra weight would be helpful rather than a handicap.

The price on Adlers and the rest of the Turkish repeaters have dropped as the market has been flooded. They represent an easy (cheap) way to get into the duck swamp safely (compared to running steel in a 1960s made SxS) but they still leave a lot to be desired in fit finish, balance etc. Strangely enough there is a section of the market that think a detachable box mag and Ar15 grips is the best ergonomics for moving targets - coming to a duck swamp near you

A 20ga would be interesting, much lighter and not giving anything up in effectiveness.

They certainly are quick. I guess they are legal Australia wide for category B licence?

Cat A down here Joe. Reckon the smaller frame 20g is the go.

You always have the option of getting light loads for a 12. I know more than one senior duck hunter that use 12ga with 24 gram light loads ( replicating a light 20ga load) with great success. Then if you do get a day when you have nothing but 40 -45m shots you can upgrade to the 32+ gram loads.

I think it's more about the weight of the gun the it is about recoil.

Its more about three shots and handling which includes weight. Ill get it sorted by Christmas or ill look at something else.
