Buffer helps cushion shot to shot, it doesn’t protect the bore.

I just read this great thread and I'd like to suggest trying double shotcups for tungsten TSS loads.

I load mostly for 20 gauges, a 20/76 shell can take a 28 gauge shotcup inside a 20 cup. There's still extra space for a 30 gram #7 load so I'm using a 3 mm wad under the 28 cup and another wad under the shot. And a mylar wrap in between the cups.

With 1,4 g VV N340 I'm getting 400 m/s and 160 pellets evenly in a 50 cm dia pistol target @ 50 meters from a Merkel combination gun fixed F barrel.

I'm on a mission. I want to make Vintage Safe TSS ammo for some older 20/70 shotguns I have. Those tight chokes are not optimal but well... I sense a total lead ban coming so I rather try than do nothing.

I've been loading TSS for a couple of years now. Rifles for 30 years, casting bullets and slugs for 25.

That's an interesting idea, I'm guessing that double shot cups would also keep the pattern a little tighter too.

I agree a ban on lead is coming, it's completely BS but it's another way hurt the sport, price the less well off out of it.
Although I'm hoping that all this switching over makes TSS a bit cheaper in the future as demand breeds competition.

Yes, most probably it's even tighter with double cups. I have not really compared.

I forgot to mention that for my 20/76 double cup loads I cut half of the cushion (tail) part off the 28 cup. That way I can use those felt wads.

There is "vintage safe" tungsten/polymer mix ammo like Kent Tungsten Matrix. But I have some full choke barrels that give horrible , unusable "patterns" with that ammo.

And it's only lead heavy. Need too cook my own.

I've been roll crimping with felt wads lately, but I definitely want to give this a try.
Are the shot cups used lead or steel shot ones?
