SxS point of impact question

Post by KO301 »

Hi all,
I recently got a Merkel sxs made in East Germany and I have been having a blast with it but the gun is shooting very very low. I have to cover my entire target with the bead and a little more to hit anything with it. I’m a trap shooter so I’m very not used to the concept and I very often shoot under.

Is there an easy fix? Should I just add a mid bead?

That's going to be a stock fit problem I'd guess, when you look down the barrel do you have to move your head to see the bead properly?
I'm soft and I don't care.

Mid bead helps for sure. Nice looking merkel.

Two things, stock fit and sight picture.

Your gun will most likely be shooting a 50/50 spread with the correct fitting. Trap guns tend to shoot 60/40 to 70/30 so your hold and mental sight picture may be exaggerating the situation.

Cheers

You are an experienced shotgun shooter so you probably already know how to shoot a shotgun properly but in doing so you shouldn’t consciously see the bead at all, only focus on the target. Then wile doing so if you are still shooting low, raise the comb which will place the pattern higher. You can test this temporarily by building up the comb with foam or similar material and if that corrects the problem for you, then seek a more permanent solution such as bending the stock or installing an adjustable comb.

I try to only see the bead and no rib for consistency.
If there’s a mid bead, I’d stack the beads but I’m not sure how much rib I’m supposed to see with this gun.
I think I’ll try to pattern the gun tomorrow and see what I can do.

Thanks!

I agree it's a stock issue. Your stock needs bent up.
