Re: Barnes .224 45gr. tsx bullet
I have shot it out of my BD14 222 barrel, it shoots pretty well at 26.0 grains of W748. Muzzle velocity is 3093 FPS and group size was .647". I haven't shot any game with it, but I have shot quite a lot with the older 45 grain XLC out of my .22 hornet. The XLC penetrates very well, usually around 18-20" of shoulder and thorax, exiting medium sized deer but caught by the hide of 220 pound and larger deer or antelope. It doesn't expand below about 2,000 fps so keep that in mind assuming the TSX will be the same as the XLC.

Thats pretty damn good for a little pill in a little calibre.

Bob, as always you are a wealth of valuable information and experience. I asked that question of Barnes and they replied 1900 f/s so I think it is safer to use your 2000 f/s rule. I hope you and your family remain safe from the hurricane and you are in our prayers. If I can help you in any way please let me know.

This is a pic of a 45 grain Barnes XLC that I recovered from a Blessbuck I shot at 197 yards. He was standing broadside and I shot him through the shoulder. The bullet had stretched the hide on the opposite shoulder but the hide captured the bullet and kept it from exiting. It started out at 2,770 fps and impact velocity is calculated to be 1952 fps. As you can see it failed to expand.
