Another Quickload Request
Apologies in advance for another Quickload Request.
I am trying to develop a new load for a Merkel double rifle drilling in 9.3x74r using the below components.
I am unsure of a starting load useing,
RWS cases.
Woodleigh 320 grain RNSP.
Alliant RL15 Powder.
RWS standard large rifle primers.
COL 94.5mm
Barrel length 55cm.
Thankyou Allan

Re: Another Quickload Request
Here you go. Personally I don't like going below 85% fill and if QL is correct RL15 might be on the fast side. I don't know maybe someone else can chime in who has experience with the 9.3x74r or with low fill loads as I don't.

Re: Another Quickload Request
FWIW I think with the 320s and possibly even with 286s I would start with 2209 rather than RL15.9.3x64 wrote:Thankyou again dchamp,

Case capacity of the 9.3 x64 exceeds that of the 9.3 x62

I'm loading for the 9.3x74r not 9.3x64 .secondtry wrote:FWIW I think with the 320s and possibly even with 286s I would start with 2209 rather than RL15.9.3x64 wrote:Thankyou again dchamp,

I tried 2209 but barrels still crossed at 50, so I figure trying a slower burning powder my improve things.
I know a couple of guys who have had good results with doubles and RL15 in 9.3x74r.
Fingers crossed...

Yes i think the RL 15 is perfekt for 9,3x74R.
Norma 203B is identical with RL 15.
I use 203B with succes in my D99.

I have also been very happy with 203B and Woodleigh 286 RNSN in my 9.3x74r BB97. I will try URP this spring pushing some 250gr Peregrine VRG-3 projectiles but I have to wait for the snow to clear.

Oops. Typo. I meant, and was thinking, 9.3x74R.9.3x64 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2017 4:36 amI'm loading for the 9.3x74r not 9.3x64 .secondtry wrote:FWIW I think with the 320s and possibly even with 286s I would start with 2209 rather than RL15.9.3x64 wrote:Thankyou again dchamp,

Either way if it won't regulate with 2209, it's no good to you.

Re: Another Quickload Request
Well it turned out that 2208/Varget had the answer.
A double that shoots two inch’s apart at 50 metres without crossing will do me.
However I have shot many groups with this combination and it only shoots well without crossing standing offhand, with or without shooting sticks.
As soon as I shoot it off the bench, it crosses.
However this is not unheard of or a bad thing.

I get the same problem with slugs with the SxS, you have to shoot it unsupported or it affects the accuracy.
Kind of like with spring air rifles.

Re: Another Quickload Request
Yes. I read somewhere that the right barrel starts to recoil up and to the right immediately after the projectile starts it journey down the barrel, and the left barrel recoils up and left. Apparently this has a lot to do with the difference in point of impact when shooting unsupported as opposed to of a solid bench rest.

I wasted a lot of slugs figuring that little nugget of information.
