Turns out 416 projectiles is not an impulse purchase.
I built a 416 Remington a few years ago, but for a variety of reasons I have yet to fire a shot through it. I have finally got a bit of spare time, so decided its the best chance I have to start some load development this weekend
I probably should have planned ahead a bit better, because it turns out that trying to buy a box of 400gn Woodleigh bullets in Melbourne between Christmas and new year is not so easy. I called about 6 gun shops, but they either weren't open or didn't have any.
Anyhow, I managed to buy a box of Hornady Iinterlock bullets, so I can start getting this rifle zeroed and give it a bit of a try out.

Painful. Was going to call tomorrow to check. They used to open every weekend.

There happy to take your money. They were always open this time of year. I bet there’s been heaps drive up to the gate as well.
Measure it, when it’s on the deck

From their website. Yes they are normally open but this year they had enough.

Should have put a call out for a few 416 Rem, 400gr woodies. There's a few of us that actually hunt with this manly cartridgeRifletuner wrote:Painful. Was going to call tomorrow to check. They used to open every weekend.

You poor bugger. Happen to me once with a few mates. They were filming parts of the Nichols Cage movie Ghost Rider on property close by, and the film company paid them to close for the day. Back then it was only open Monday’s during the week and no internet web page to tell you. Paying member got second place back then as well.thomasr1969 wrote:I would have been one of themdeerhunter338mag wrote:There happy to take your money. They were always open this time of year. Yes, I know it. I have seen some of your videos.mchughcb wrote: Should have put a call out for a few 416 Rem, 400gr woodies. There's a few of us that actually hunt with this manly cartridge
I just thought a few more places would have stocked them. Clayton did have some in stock, but it was a fair way out of my way when I was driving around the countryside. Now that I have an extra week to get organised I might still get there and buy some.

I bought a box of Interlocks to get me started because they were available at the LGS so I could get them without making a special trip and they were not too pricey compared to the alternatives. I was a bit worried about the shape of the projectile on the box, but relieved once I opened them. They will do for practice anyhow, and I could hunt sambar with them if it was all I had.

I was trying to get a photo of my 416 to post, but the security detail had to come inspect what was happening.

Intetlrlocks can be pointy or flat. Ive found with my 7mm and 9.3 they shoot pretty much same POI as the woodleighs so if you can get them grouping you should be on your way.
