Re: Tuning a load to your rifle quickly and economically
Couldn't help myself. Just ordered a Labradar. Looks like there will be a Magnetospeed V3 up for sale on abused bums soon....

Hmm, any Labradar owners willing to convince me of the virtue of the unit at Belmont?

Re: Tuning a load to your rifle quickly and economically
To the point at hand, I’m a fan of loading say 5 rounds each of a particular charge and shorting groups with each: say I suspect 47g is the sweet spot I’ll usually load 5x 45, 5x 46, 5x 47 & 5x 48 = 20 rounds. Depending on results the next trip is either with 20 identical loads or a mix that might include half grain increments
Like most this method hinges on two range trips. To speed this up I’ve considered taking primed brass etc to the range but always talk myself out of it. I do have scales that run on a 9v so powder is covered but what about bullet seating? Is a Lee hand press up to the task of seating bullets bigger than .30 cal?

I shoot my charge groups in round robin fashion to hopefully spread out the human error equally.
I've been in serious "need" of a Labradar since they came out, but Santa didn't oblige.

Unfortunately for us here in Aus they are a bit pricy for the amount of times it would be used .
I would love one but there are other things I want to get first at $1000 au dollars a bit out of reach for the moment.

Bought mine from buymylabradar.com
They are $560 US with $100 US postage for a grand total of $813 AUD.
When it arrives I'll sell my Magnetospeed and my traditional chronograph......and hopefully recoup some coin.
Buying one in Australia they start at $995 and then you add postage!

I was looking at a "Super Chrongraph" acoustic chronograph, supposed to be 99% accurate and detect 99% of shots, and its simple, compact and easy to use.

Yeah they look awesome and you can place them well downrange to get velocities at say 300metres to check BC etcSPEEDY wrote:I was looking at a "Super Chrongraph" acoustic chronograph, supposed to be 99% accurate and detect 99% of shots, and its simple, compact and easy to use.

Only problem is you cannot use the Super Chronograth on subsonic loads. Much like the Magnetospeed doesn't work with solid brass bullets.....

The way I figure it, if I can't get a reading then its subsonic.

Re: Tuning a load to your rifle quickly and economically
i just watched the Super Chrono video.
There is a bit of set up to go through. More margins of error the further down range its set up.
Prefer the ease of the Labradar.

Re: Tuning a load to your rifle quickly and economically
You couldn't get it sent from Sydney and have it arrive in that time from Australia post.
