Barnes TTSX 100gr 6,5x55?
Have anyone of you tested Barnes TTSX 100 or 120gr, in 6,5x55?
If im not calculating wrong i can get somewhere around 950-970m/s with the 100gr TTSX.
The 120gr will be somewhere 840-860m/s.
I want a leadfree bullet load to my 6,5x55 for use on roedeer and foxes at longer range ->250m distance.
Today I'm using 120gr Nosler Ball tip at 860m/s. But i think it smashes and make to much mess in the roedeer. I even got a coorseparation on a roedeerfawn with the Ball tip at close range.
But the Ball tip shoots real great in my rifle.
My thought was to test Barnes bullets to se if i can get less damage if i use a leadfree bullet like Barnes bullets.

Re: Barnes TTSX 100gr 6,5x55?
I’ve used the 120 grain TSX out of my various 6.5 rifles including my 6.5x55. My youngest son used that same bullet out of his CZ550 FS on a couple dozen animals as well. At 250 meters and in it will do what you want, clean kills, little loss of venison, but at longer distances, impact velocities 2200 fps and lower it is a slow killer often requiring a coupe de grass shot.

Thank you for your respond!
Have you tried it on boars? I found a penetrationtest with 6.5x55 and the 100 and 120gr Barnes TTSX performed real well compared to the 156gr bullets.
I wouldnt give it a second tought to take down boars up to 50-60kg weight with a 120gr TTSX.

I have shot only a few boars with this bullet, it worked well but all were close, 50-100 yards or so. Penetration was complete even on shoulder shots. I've never recovered a bullet even with raking shots.

Thank you alot for your answers! I found some interesting loads for the 120gr TTSX, will try to find an accurate load for my rifle this spring.

Re: Barnes TTSX 100gr 6,5x55?
I got the best speed and accuracy with Reloader 22 in my testing of the 120 TSX, I didn't ever try the TTSX but in other calibers they seem to shoot very similar between the two designs. I would think the TTSX would open faster because of it's larger hollow point behind the polymer tip, but in the calibers that I have tested, they were indistinguishable. I use the 130 grain TSX and TTSX interchangeably in my 30-06 except for seating depth and they penetrate the same in 10% ballistic gel and leave the same size wound cavity. I don't have access to my load data for the 6.5X55 or I would share it withy you. It is in storage as I prepare to move from Florida to Arizona so it might be a few months before I get access to it again.

Re: Barnes TTSX 100gr 6,5x55?
Thank you for your answer! I will try Norma URP, Norma 204 or Norma MRP powder, that is the easiest powder for me to get.I will use norma brass and a Federal 215 primer for the TTSX 120gr
Norma URP 44-46,6gr
Norma MRP 46-50,5gr
Norma 204 44-46,5gr
Probably will one of the powder give me an accurate groupe, speed somewhere 2800-2950 feet/sec

Norma MRP 46-50,5gr

CCI 200
Naughty by doing pretty much meat damage, mostly shot roes with it.
Pigs - headshots and they all died instantly.
If I were you, I would try the Nosler ABLR 129grs, hopefully it will be stabilized out of Blaser's 1:8.66" twist BBL.

Thank you!
I have used Nosler BT 120gr and found it pretty messy.
And now i will try copper bullets for the first time.
It will be used on roedeers, smaller hogs and fallow deer.
If i aint finding a proper shooting load, i will try Nosler 130gr Ab or partition 125gr.

I used the 100gn Nosler BT on those species, well Goats instead of Roe deer but you get the point.
That was in a 260rem but in my Swedes I preferred the 120gn Nosler BT instead.
It will do the job you want just fine, but the 100gn Barnes will do just as good a job.
I'm soft and I don't care.
