200g NAB with Varget/2208 in 8x57IS

Post by Gun Barrel Ecologist »

Anyone tried the above combination?
Or ran it through QL?
Nosler list 47.5g for 2530fps at a 77mm OAL as their max but I'm thinking that might be a bit optimistic https://load-data.nosler.com/load-data/ ... js-mauser/
And yeah, I'm still hoping to find a heavy bullet that will shoot as well as the 170g SST viewtopic.php?f=42&t=15732

I have two Blaser barrels in 8x57. One measures to the lands 3.19" and the other 3.295" oal with the 200gr NAB. I used to shoot the 180gr NBT at 3.15" oal with 49.5gr's of Varget. Here is the same loading you requested only changing the oal to 3.15"

My son just came over, he had been out doing a little testing. By coincidence he was shooting the 8x57 with 200gr SMK @ 3.15"oal (0.100" jump) and 46.0gr of Varget. For what it's worth this Varget is several years old. The squares in the target are 10mm.

Thanks a lot Dchamp, always interesting to see the pressure difference in only 3mm of seating depth adjustment. :handgestures-thumbup:
To missquote Mick Jagger "Its only computations but I like it...."

I'll be happy if my NAB groups like the above SMK group

There are 8x57R loads from both Dinger and myself in the Load Database. Both using 2208 and Partitions. Should be close to what could be expected with ABs.

:handgestures-thumbup:
Yep, Dinger loads to 80mm and yours are 81mm, Nosler list 77mm....
Then there’s the difference in length between the Partition and Accubond...

As I said “it’s only computations but I like it...”

 If you knew how painful a place Belmont is for load development and analysis we might be on the same page
