Hello,
I have a 223 barrel on route for my r93. I know it is not a bright idea to fire any ammunition out of a barrel that is not stamped with that caliber. The 2 calibers are the same for size and dimensions, however the 5.56nato has a slightly higher pressure than the 223. I do not see any 5.56nato caliber barrels made by Blaser, so maybe it just isn’t an available caliber of ammunition where the barrels are manufactured. The 5.56 produces approximately 58,000psi and the 223 produces approximately 55,000psi. I’m just curious if anyone knows what the r93 barrels are rated for? I’m unable to locate any literature linking the r93 barrel to a 5.56 caliber.
P.S I won’t be going out and just trying it. I’m asking because my old hunting rifle was approved for both configurations.
Thank you
5.56nato VS 223rem

Re: 5.56nato VS 223rem
The free bore of the 556 is longer, and a bit larger in diameter. Bubbas routinely fire 556 ammo in 223 rifles, however I personally would not do it, as at the very least the excessive pressures is hard on brass if you reload. Probably induces a bit more wear and tear on your collets on your bolt head of Blaser, due to bolt thrust .
I would avoid it.

Re: 5.56nato VS 223rem
Thanks for the reply. I had decided that I’ll sell all my 5.56 ammunition and purchase some more 223. I was just curious because I couldn’t find any information about 5,56 and Blasers. The rifle itself is built strong and the action is capable of handling rifles like 375HH, 416, 500 so those pressures would. E fine. My last hunting rifle was rated to fire both and I have about 1000 rounds left of 5.56. But I’ll find them a new home and buy more 223

I've used it, but don't like it so I never put more then a couple of boxes through in a pinch.
I'm soft and I don't care.
