Greetings fellow Blaser owners

Post by John0313 »

I’ve been a forum member for awhile, (albeit in a “2nd cousin lurker” capacity as a Sauer 200 owner) and took the “Blaser plunge” a week or so ago, purchasing a LH R8 Professional in 30-06, and a .22 LR kit. I figured I “needed” the 22 LR kit help me train with the new centerfire straight pull. Topped with a Z6i 1.7-10X42 SR scope (thanks Eddie!), its not as svelte as my Sauer 200 lightweight, but feels very . . . Businesslike, with a great trigger. This weekend was the first one off in three, so I went to the range earlier today. Wow. I’ve owned, even built multiple very accurate rifles, but the R8 is everything I’ve read about. I zeroed the rifle (effectively with just one round) and proceeded to shoot a 6 round group with 3 different loads and bullet weights (165, 173, and 200 grains) into a little less than 3/4”.

I initially thought I’d ultimately purchase additional barrels in .223, and 9.3x62 (one gun concept). Before I even had possession of the rifle, I ordered a .223 barrel, and a scope for the 9.3 barrel I don’t even have yet (yes, the sickness is real). Luckily I’ve hoarded two lifetime supplies of brass, and bullets for the ‘06. I keep telling myself I’ll economize by reforming my excess 30-06 brass into 9.3x62, and using up 9.3 bullets that I’ve picked up along the way. The good news is I’ll be freeing up space in the safe with 3 or 4 rifles I won’t be needing any longer!

Oh, and I forgot to pack my handy Blaser 5mm wrench to take to the range, so I didn’t get to shoot the .22 kit today. I bet I’m not the first, or the last to make that mistake!

Welcome John, the mistake of leaving something behind hit us all well me at least.
I left the wrong bolt head in the car a kilometre away and only noticed when I couldn’t close the bolt on the lap.
