Just a quick hi from the UK
Hi blaserbuds.
This site should be called BlaserBUG..!
I certainly got the bug, and after a little pondering purchase a new R8 Pro Success in 30-06 (to start with!! ) topped off with a Swarovski dS
I have a few custom rifle combos, from Remington & Sako which have all been superb over the years, but this Blaser bug had to be sorted so here I am..!
Been shooting for over 40years.... air rifles, shotgun, CF rifles and love it.
Scottish Hills, to lowland wood... I just love to be out in the wilderness. S Africa booked for this year, where I will be taking the R8 on its maiden voyage of hunting.
Currently I’m developing a load to take, so within a few weeks I should have set everything up and tested thoroughly. Just hope the R8 is a shooter !.
Just can’t wait to shoot it...!

Welcome Aboard! The R8 is more than adequate for S. Africa. My R8's have been on 4 trips and have been responsible for multiple trophies. You won't be disappointed.
It doesn't matter what you shoot as long as you shoot

You picked a good companion for your love of the wilderness, the R8. There are some suggested 30-06 loads in the reloading section.

Re: Just a quick hi from the UK
Welcome to Blaserbuds, hope you have good luck with the 30-06. I've used it more than any other caliber on game and it is never "a wrong choice". For years my PH used a 30-06 as his main gun, even on dangerous game recovery. He now has a Blaser S2 470 NE but says it just to ease clients minds as the 30-06 never let him down. There is an article on here that I wrote comparing the .308 and 30-06 using an R8. I tested only factory loads in this case but handloads shoot much better. My go to load for many years was 57 grains of H4350 and the 165 grain Nosler Partition. It is a wonderful load for use under 500 yards. But the best factory load I tested was the Hornady Professional Hunter 178 grain ELDX.
