1st, time Blaser Owner...

Post by YukonHunter »

Hello from the Yukon Territory, Canada

I just ordered my R8 Professional (Green), standard barrel, iron sights, non detachable magazine in 30-06 cal. Hoping to use only this new rifle for all my subsitance hunting: wild sheep, goat, caribou, moose and maybe even wood bision.

Looking for a reliable, accurate tool that can help me secure meat in the freezer.

Looking forward to the QR Blaser Saddle base and low mount rings (ordered) to go with my Leupold VX - 3 3.5-10x40mm-1" tube.

Will be nice to have the scope off when in deep bush or when packing meat out. A selling feature for me for bear defence.

Looking forward to learning more about the Blaser rifle on this forum.

Cheers,
YukonHunter 8-)

I love my 30/06, although I would rather the 9.3x74R for bear defence. 😂
But it's a great choice to put meat in the freezer, that's what I do with mine. 👍
Welcome.

I like everything about your choices.
That will be a good solid reliable tool that is extremely accurate.
Yes a 9.3x62 would be my choice, however I imagine in your neck of the woods 3006 ammunition and components are always available. A 3006 is never a bad choice.

Welcome aboard. Your thinking makes a lot of sense. I think the 30-06 is a much better bear deterrent than pepper spray....

You're in good company. (although some might disagree  )

At least two of us from Aus are fans of the R8 Professional in 30.06. :)

I have R8 30-06 pro also. I think you’ve made a great choice. The versatility of the round and the R8 platform lend themselves to each other.

Thanks for the recommendation Rod. Nice group! 👌. I appreciate the images. I really like the 180 grain as it will take out any game I come accross... Will have to run a few brands and see what she likes...

Welcome.
Thanks Speedy, you got it man.
We are fortunate to be able to put healthy meat in the freezer knowing it had a good life "in nature" and that it was harvested humanity. I have high hopes the Blaser R8 is going to help me carry on that tradition.
