A 260rem with a 100gn pill doing 3300fps is a hard hitting flat shooter on game that size, does a great job on fallow.
I'm soft and I don't care.

It's interesting that whenever cartridges are compared they are usually compared to how well they will perform on deer.
But not everyone is using every cartridge on deer.
Sub deer calibers have their place in my mind, and that's where I see the 243.
Perfect wild dog cartridge for far and near. :D

The 500 Jeffrey works better on Wombats, they don't run as far...

Do you need to use a stout bullet to make sure you get a pass through?

On a serious note my 92 year old uncle in Kangaroo Valley hates wombats.
He has a lot of silky oak trees and they burrow underneath them and destroy the roots.
Everytime I visit him he is at the local rubbish tip looking for old wire bed frames to spread around the base of his silky oak trees so the little fuzzy bunnies can't destroy his silky oak trees.
I keep telling him there's better ways..

When I was younger we lost a few dogs from wombats hunting pigs in state forest. Dogs would think the wombat was a small pig and would chase them down their hole. Wombats would then block them in with their rock hard backs and suffocate the dog. We would be digging like mad to get the dog out.

We had one dog trapped down there for three days. Was dug out with a backhoe. Was pretty incredible it survived.
