Anzac Day

Post by Corjack »

To our members that honor ANZAC day.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Thanks, there's much to remember and a lot still to pray for.
It might be an Australian and New Zealand day, but all are welcome to remember their countries fallen and to pray that everyone serving no matter the country they come from make it home again.

Big day over here and it's great to see a lot of young people getting up for the dawn service. I remember when it was a hand full of people at the local RSL dawn service, now it's packed. Awesome to see.

Mine was the smallest I've been to, and probably the one I've enjoyed the most.
It was simple, dignified and felt more open and friendly.

It was also directly opposite my house.

As a member of the local RSL, I just go inside for breakfast as it's just a traffic nightmare once the service is over. Great atmosphere there and not a bad feed as well.

That's the beauty of a small country town, about 30 people showed up (80% of the town) and after the service the old lady's had a breakfast ready in the hall and everyone could talk and I like to read the names on the town hall.
Well it's actually the soldiers memorial hall, every town around here has one.
I am always impressed and something else I can't name, but when I see how many brothers and even farther and sons that went off to fight.
I'm really I don't know what, but when I see the number that fought in WW1 that also volunteered for WW2.
I just can't help but feel humbled, they survived hell only to volunteer to go back and do it all over again when their country needed them, in the photos you see the difference in age from an impressionable young man going off on the grand adventure that was sold as WW1 but the look in their eyes as they went off to WW2.

You can see they know the truth about what they are heading too and still they volunteered and went, that's the kind of courage and love of country that this day is ment to remind us of and I'm glad for the simple service and location I have here that lets me read their stories so they don't get forgotten.

Only seeing this now so apologies for the late post. It's great to see a countries armed forces being honoured and remembered in such a way. In Ireland there is no pride among the general public, except of course for the servicemen/women's families, for the military. In fact because we are are "neutral" a lot of the population even question the need for a military. Forgetting that as a "neutral" country you should have a strong military to deter attack. It really gets to me as there is a strong military heritage in my family with members having fought in WW1, WW2, Vietnam and still serving. I applaud your countries for having the dignity and respect to remember those who returned and those who did not.
