Short barrel 9.3X62 Data

Post by Corjack »

(Cartridge) 9.3X62

(Brand of bullet) Nosler Accubond

(Weight of bullet) 250 grains

(Brand of brass) Lapua

(Type of powder) Ramshot Tac

(Grains of powder) 53

(Brand, and type of primer) Winchester large rifle

(COL) 3.460

(FPS) Average 2395 FPS, at 20 feet from the muzzle.

(Rifle) Blaser R8 20.5 inch barrel (19.65 inches from bolt face)

(Scope) Swarovski Z6I 2-12X50

(Weather conditions & temp.) 40s, and breezy. Cloudy conditions

(Accuracy @ 100 yards/meters) 1inch honest group. Strung horizontally.

(Notes)My barrel must be a little fast. I am averaging between 2377 to 2412 FPS with 53 grains of TAC. According to Quickload around 60 grains is max, with a predicted velocity of around 2500 FPS It is not sunny, and it is rather breezy, actually blowing my crony around a bit between shots, so this may explain the spread. I fired a 3 shot group pretty quickly, under these breezy conditions, and got a 1 inch group with this load, but it was spread out horizontal, so it could be my trigger control, wind, or both. I think I will stop here for now, as I do not think a bear at 40 to 50 yards will notice much difference in a 100 fps.

Looks great, I of course have your looooong 9.3 bbl and have yet to shoot it. I am thinking about trying Reloader 17, since I have so much of it. I have a bunch of 250 accubonds, some woodleighs, 285 Alaskan's and 325 norma oryx for our griz beasties around our place.

I found this on our forum and other loads online that look promising:

Re: 9.3x62 Load?

I have a CZ550 American in 9.3x62 with a 600mm barrel.
Lapua Case
WLR Primer

64gr RL17
250gr North Fork. 2650 fps

66gr, 250gr A-Frame. 2700 fps.

61.0 gr gives the 286gr 2530 fps in my rifle
.
Don't start with these loads, work up from a couple of grains below.
