Bipod options for a rookie
Gents,
I'm researching bipods and came across the Javelin bipod for the R8 which looks cool but costs a pretty penny.
I currently have a Harris for my Remington 700 long range build. Are there any more 'affordable' options? I have a Blaser Professional S chambered in 308. It would be ideal if I could just switch one Harris bipod over between both rifles.
Thanks for any advice or insight.
Armin

Theres a stud spot in the forend of an R93 professional, so there should be one in the R8 also.
You can fit a sling in there and mount a Harris to it.
I've done that, I've also replaced the factory stud for a spigot to mount other bipods like the neopod to, or a picatinny rail.

There is a place in the forearm of the R8 to place a front swivel for bipods such as the Harris. You just need a threaded front swivel stud and a nut to install after you drill it. I’ve done this several times now. The Harris works better with the shape of the R8 forearm if you also glue thicker leather pads to the Harris mount to better conform to the schnabel shape.

I saw this video this morning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB4992PLJl4
Would either one of these adapters work?
1) http://www.harrisbipods.com/HB2.html
2) http://www.harrisbipods.com/HB2A.html

The HB2A looks like it would work but I just used an Uncle Mikes front stud and cut the screw to length so that it was flush with the top of the nut.

The HB2A might work better than the Uncle Mikes because it has a larger bearing surface, I don't know for sure.

Also read some one these Norwegian Neopods. They look pretty slick. Any of you guys run those on a Blaser and have a sling?
Wouldn’t have to drill into the stock with the Neopod.

It took me about 10 years to work up the nutts to drill into an R93 stock.
Gkad I did now.
I ran a sling with a bi pod adaptor in the end, it was necer a problem, they are designed so you can.

Yes I used a Neopod on a Spigot system, It worked well I have now changed the spigot
system and use Spartan bipods, javelin and 300 bipod fits in this spigot adaptor.

Those Neo Pods look interesting, and LIGHT. Where would be a good place for someone in Australia to buy from ?

I put a picatinny rail on my R93 so I have QD bipod . I use the Harris as it’s a bit less floppy than an Atlas. Bipods can be like women, you trying them till you find one you like. Then you still will be thinking should try a different one.

Re: Bipod options for a rookie
What do those who use them recommend as a height for a bipod, particularly where there may be a bit of grass in the way?

If you shooting over short grass I like a 9"-12" set but for high grass then you need the big bulky 12"-25" range so you can shoot sitting.

Re: Bipod options for a rookie
Sitting and using a 25" rifle height would sacrifice a lot of steadiness - yes ? Might be better do some gardening if possible and stay low. I'm thinking of a pic rail under the forend of my 308 for a QD bipod, but I do like the looks of these mega buck options and mounts.
