Re: Sig 277 Fury
I just read an article in Guns America Digest on an interview they had with Sig. Current M240 barrel technology gives less than 1000 round barrel life. However, new coating technology being finalized will provide “way greater barrel life than you are imagining”. These numbers will be published when finalized possibly Q1’2020.

Re: Sig 277 Fury
When a 6.5PRC can fire a 130 grain bullet out at 3090fps (albeit in a 24" barrel) and is reloadable and hence fine tunable, I see absolutely no point in this .277 calibre...There would be no reloading unless just neck sizing I presume with the Fury. With the higher pressures I would think the brass would "flow" more and I do not know if with the steel base whether it would be open to reloading - probably not as how would you determine what pressure signs are present in a steel base case....? Interesting calibre none the less...

Re: Sig 277 Fury
Is that 1000 rounds with the 277 furry? That's only 5 barrel changes, I'm sure the 7.62 gets a lot more then that, I know the Mag 58 does easy around 15,000 rounds they are essentially the same gun.stokesrj wrote: ↑Mon Dec 23, 2019 7:46 amI just read an article in Guns America Digest on an interview they had with Sig. Re: Sig 277 Fury
That is the way I read it, the current technology but chambered for the 277 Fury will only withstand 1000 rounds.

Re: Sig 277 Fury
So 15x less barrel life then a 7.62x51, that barrel liner material would make one last for over a million rounds.
In military procurement terms that is a bargain in terms of replacement and maintenance costs and that will figure more into it then performance.
It's still a great round, but I think the offset of upkeep cost Vs any particular savings on ammunition and increase in performance will work against it.
