Info appreciatedre Fort Lauderdale

Post by btm_54 »

Gooday,
I am coming to Fort Lauderdale in early March.
Part work part time off.
I live on a rural property in Australia. Not huge 25 acres.
I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on things to do in or around Fort Lauderdale.
I was keen to talk with shooters especially Blaser owners
Look at shops, ranges and see what other shooting related things there are to do,
In the long range hunting department I have a 338LM and a 308Win which I use at the range and in the paddock.
I do my own reloading and would be really interested in seeing how other people do things.
I have 5 days where I am free during the day.
Thanks in advance
Cheers,
Bob
Regards,
Bob.

Bob, I would have no idea of anybody personally in that area that is a member here. As for what's there to do, another good question. I did check Blaser's website and they have a dealer in Miami, about 27 miles from Ft. Lauderdale. You might shoot them an email and see what's in the area. There are other dealers in FL but some are quite a ways off. Here is the link to the Blaser site:

Here is the dealer in Miami: Somarriba, Inc.

You kind of picked a bad time to visit the USA. Not much happening hunting wise in the spring. Some places have Turkey hunting during this time but most regular hunting is fall and early winter. If you like salt water fishing you'll be in a good spot. There are also a lot of inland lakes in Florida that offer some very good bass fishing.

If you were coming to Texas I'm quite sure we could get you to go on an exotic hunt in the Texas Hill Country. Those animals are not regulated by the state and may be hunted year round. We have everything from wild hogs, coyotes, Wildebeest, Zebra, Axis, Blackbuck, Eland, Elk, (cows and bulls), Various Sheep, Goats, Fallow deer, just about anything you can think of. Don't know of anybody that has the "big 5 – elephant, Cape buffalo, lion, tiger, etc” but we have most everything else covered. It's just a matter of $$$ as to what someone can find to hunt. Here is a website of one of our exotic hunting places.

If you go to the http://www.lonestarranchexotichunts.com website and click on enter, then click on prices you'll see what's available and what she's charging. I have never hunted on her place. We found it a few months back when we were looking to do an Axis hunt for some of the guys. Did talk to her on the phone and sounded like a very nice lady. I have another friend who has a game ranch but he specializes more in trophy class animals so the prices are going to be 'up there', but you would get a trophy class animal. Some of these ranches are high fence others are not. The one my friend has is right at 1000 acres. The animals are not tame and he believes in the fair chase rules of hunting. From talking to the lady at Lone Star some of hers are low fence and she has multiple ranches that she hunts different animals on.

She also has a SPECIALS area on the pricing page. She does packages with discounts for multiple animals. For instance she has a 6x6 Bull Elk and a 1 1/2 curl ram for $2500.00. No guarantee on how big that 6x6 would be but I suspect not very big. Probably a young 6x6 but the hunts in New Mexico for the big ones are $8,000 and up. And there are no guarantees there. Here you don't kill, I'm pretty sure you don't pay... (Other than lodge rental, guide, etc.)

So when you're in Ft. Lauderdale we're only another 1300 miles to the west... come on down. I don't have a Blaser but I'd be happy to loan ya one of my Colt Sauers and either of them would do the job.... ;)

Ft Lauderdale has some very good beaches and the wildlife viewing is great. I was down there a few years ago and had a blast drinking in the Tikki Bars. If I come to Florida in that time period I will look you up.

I would think there would be some pig hunting in Florida.
