R93 300wm Sambar stag.

Post by deerhunter338mag »

Gave the R93 300wm a run yesterday and the 210gr VLD Berger did the job very nicely. I knocked this guy over at just on 272 meters down hill. He ran about 50-60 meters and expired. I walked just on 30k's and was completely stuffed, I didn't hit the sack until about midnight. Was a very slow day today and I'm very stiff and sore but was all worth it. If you look just back of the right front leg you can see the point of impact. The damage this projectile did was devastating but it still ran. There a tough animal that's for sure.

Well done, quite a feat of endurance and good shooting at the end of it. Although it looks like the old saying still holds good. "The work only starts when you pull the trigger" congratulations again.

I'm glad for you, well done. I'm always curious about the Berger VLD performance, I've seen quite a few animals taken with the 210 but all at longer distances. Did the bullet exit? If not, did you recover it? Was it the hunting VLD or one of the target versions?

I found the pill which I will clean up and weigh to see how much it lost. It was a hunting Vld and the internal damage was just a mess. I'm kinda thinking the hydrostatic shock thing was happing really well, as the heart and lungs was just a mess as well as the stomach area. It's really pushed out its energy. On impact the projectile was still going 2490fps and the foot pounds of energy was 2891ft-ibs. The projectile really did its job very well.

I should of bought 2 and kept one as a spare. They don't sell that model now, so I will just have to hunt one down on eBay or wait till a new model comes out.

Haha thanks mate.
He had he's fingers in he's ears as we didn't have time to look for some extra plugs. He did an awesome job capping out why I pushed a few Ks out carting everything back. Was a super big walk.

Should have used the 9.3, even at that range it wouldn't have ran that far, nice work but.

I would have a go using the 250gr accubonds no problems at all, but the damage the 210gr VLD did it wouldn't of made any difference really. There just a tough animal that's all.
