RIGBY Big Game DSB 375 H&H

Post by Rod »

Well after a bit of a false start here are some photos of my new toy. I was hoping to have had her out after a scrub bull and a few pigs but the weather and work put an end to that idea.

so off to the range we went today with only a hand full of cartridges. Fired just 10 rounds of Norma 300 grain PH and 10 rounds of Winchester 270 grain failsafe. All shots were fired at 50 yards, over the pack on the bench.

Scope is a 1to 4 Kahles.

5 rounds of Winchester at 50 yards with the scope.

5 rounds of Norma at 50 yards with the iron sights.

I'm pretty happy.

Cheers

Rod,
You've got to be smiling about the group you did with the irons! Looking forward to seeing a few photos of it in the bush.

You got to be happy with that. I'd be sighting in for 200m with the scope.

Yeah fellas I was pretty happy with how she shot. I'm responsible for the flyer with the scope. And I do love those iron sights.

G'day Chuck. Yep happy with how she shot. As for sight in distance for the scope... I reckon 100 yards. use to have my 602 in 375 H&H zeroed for 200 then a few years ago I changed her to 100 yards. Probably only ever shot a couple of things (pigs) with her past 100 yards and I've owned her for nearly 30 years. But I could change my mind.

Great stuff Rod, you gotta be happy with those groups. I have to give those Norma PH's a try. :handgestures-thumbup:

Well I'll be.... Just had a look at box and it says as plain as day 350 grain. :shifty: unlike me to be wrong.. :geek:

Yep 350 grain soft nose Woodleigh's and according to the packet they're travelling at 2300 fps.

Well I've owned the Rigby for a few months now and I hate to say that it hasn't been bush yet. That probably won't happen until the end of the year.

Anyway I loaded up some 300 grain Woodleigh Round Nose Soft Point with 79 grains of AR2209 with Federal Magnum primers and took her out to Belmont yesterday afternoon to see how they shot. I shot her off the bench over a day pack full of rags.

First string of five shots at 50 yards with the scope on. The flyer was due to me and was the first shot.
Image

Second string of five shots at 50 yards, this time with the iron sights. Again I called the flyer. I used a six o'clock hold on the black. I reckon the sights are right for the 65 yard setting as indicted on them.
Image

Scope back on and another string of five shots. This time at 100 yards. Pretty happy with the rifle, even if my shooting was a wee bit patchy. At least I was happy that I was calling my shots correctly.
Image

Last string of 5 shots at 100 yards, this time with the iron sights. The target was a bit hard to get a precise hold on. I guess I should have used a bulls eye target and gone with a 6o'clock hold. Anyway I reckon the sight are pretty well where they should be.

Image

I know they're just photos of targets but I am really happy with this rifle and how it shoots. It shoots very, very well and the trigger is better than my R8's and it's a pussy to shoot off the bench.

I'm happy with the Rigby.

cheers
