Sniper traning
Was on the range yesterday, for a course with one of Denmarks best snipers.
10 years on missions all over the world and now trainer on sniper school, in danish military.
Only 6 hours course, but he had a lot of tips to give us, and we all learned a lot
He also doing weekend training in Denmark, shooting out to 600 m, in Sweden out to 850 m and in Norway plus 1600 meter
Maybe we take a weekend in Denmark, could be fun to learn more from this guy

That would be a fascinating course to be part of.

Re: Sniper traning
Most US snipers never learn to read wind and make first shot hits beyond 800 yards. I don't know why they don't train them properly on this. They just read their Kestrel and dial in whatever it says. Don't look at mirage or other things that allow you to fine tune wind calls. I'm curious if your trainer teaches using mirage to read the wind?Olsen wrote:Was on the range yesterday, for a course with one of Denmarks best snipers.

Go on YouTube and search for Blackwatch sniper. Pretty eye opening.

Should be a great course Olsen, take heaps of notes and forward them on. I'm really trying to get better at reading mirage ATM as they can be really tricky to get your head around.

Its pretty scaring that your buller go to the right, because of the twist in the barrel
Its 10 cm at 600 meter for my 308 in no wind at all
At 1200 meter its 72 cm
Thinking about the kill at 3500 meter not that long ago

Theres a fair bit in it and it's not as easy as people think. Lot of time behind the gun working things out to be consistent. I get a real buzz out of it.Olsen wrote:Its pretty scaring that your buller go to the right, because of the twist in the barrel

Not just spin drift, but also coriolis effect and a lot of other things to take into consideration before firing the first shot.Olsen wrote:Its pretty scaring that your buller go to the right, because of the twist in the barrel
Long range shooting is a science.

Re: Sniper traning
Just cleanly killing goats at 800m with a 308win is hard enough to do let alone going further.
I've always wanted to do the milk bottle challenge, it seems like a fun thing to do.
Finding a range that I can shoot to a thousand yards on or at least an area where I can lob to thousand on is a bit tricky atm.
Im going pig shooting at Broken hill in December and might give it a go then, finding a flat open thousand yards there is easier then getting wet in a pool.

I'm soft and I don't care.
