Computer Problems

Post by retrieverman »

I had some computer issues today with my laptop, and my brother, who is in the computer business, diagnosed it for me. MY HARD DRIVE CRASHED!!!

I am pretty upset as I don't know exactly how many photos were on the computer and not backed up. I am not very good at backing up on a regular basis. :( Thankfully, I still have a 2000 model Gateway desk top that is still serviceable. ;)

Jeff: i am not a geek but i do have quite a bit of computer experience. the same thing happened to me years ago and that was when i started backing up. the simplest way i have found to back up is using a flash drive like the one listed here:

http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs. ... DOD8GB-730

it holds over 3,000 pictures. you just need a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed outlet on your computer. you just plug the Gizmo into your USB 2.0 outlet and a window will pop up just like any other folder window on your computer. you can copy or just drag and drop your files into it.

as far as your crashed hard drive is concerned it may not be a lost cause if you a willing to spend the money. there are data recovery services that can retrieve all of your information and pics from a crashed hard drive but it can be expensive (around $300 and up). just google for data recovery services. here is one example.

now if you ever have a crashed hard on, call Hugh Hefner for advise on that.

I am running 2 diffrent USB hard drives on which I store the whole computer with a software called Acronis True Image ... I hope that 2 independent systems as backup should be enough - and I keep them in my safe next to the guns...

MY HARD DRIVE CRASHED!!!
If controller and heads are ok and the disk can spin (there is medicin for non spinning drives as well ;) ), then it's 99,9% sure that I can restore the drive, even remotely if you like ;)

The same goes for SD/USB etc flash drives where you have lost all your files, yes even a formated harddrive....
Thanks Bjarne

GOOD NEWS!!!

My brother called this morning, and he was able to get ALL my photos and documents off my hard drive.Image

He commented that I had a "ridiculous amount of photos" on the computer. I don't know what he is talking about though. I probably only have 20,000 trail cam photos now since I sorted through and deleted part of them.Image
