Some one will chip in as there was reference to this a while back. Not sure but remember something about there not being the uptake on the quantity of barrels brought in ?

It was a simple glut of supply, there appeared to be a much stronger demand than there really was. Therefore Blaser produced far to many 204 barrels. I have one, and it shoots very well. I would describe it as 22-250 like flat trajectory with out the muzzle blast and sight picture disturbing recoil. You can see your impacts through the scope and there is plenty to see. Explosive impacts on Varmints. I have mine in Arizona right now for use as a coyote slayer as soon as I can get back there and then to Oregon this spring for the new crop of Columbia Ground squirrels.

Ok. I would be using it on pretty much the same thing. Coyotes and whisle pigs. Was debating on the 204 or a 243. I love the 243 round. But if I can get a 204 barrel for cheap I might as well go for it.

One thing to consider is the need for a small bolt head. Where the .243 would use the same standard bolt head as your 8X57. If you decide to go the .204 route, you can read about some of my experiences here;

And the load I finally settled on here:

You can get a semi weight for even less, but like bob said you will need a $300-400 bolt head to go with it. I too bought one of them just because they were a bargain, and I alread had a MI bolt head, but have never gotten around to trying it out. I have a 223 and a glut of ammo for so just haven’t had a real urgent need to.

There is a 22-250 for sale in the classifieds section that would work nicely without a bolt head change too :)

Where are you finding the semi weights for less?
I know I would have to get a new bolt which does kind of offset the fact that it is so cheap. But I do like the idea of so low of recoil. Watching impact in the scope is fun!

EuroOptics, one of our sponsors has the 204 Ruger semi-weight on sale for $500. However you should consider that if your stock is cut for the standard 17mm barrel, the channel will need to be widened to accommodate the 19mm semi-weight barrel. Depending on your aptitude and tolerance for slight imperfections it is easily done with a dowel and sandpaper. Or you can send it to Blaser USA and have them do it. They have jugs that insure a clean and precise job.
