Training the young bloke

Post by deerhunter338mag »

Been putting a bit of time into training the young bloke on firearm safety and how to shoot. Like us all its the 22 for starters. I’ve got him out to 70m now shoot nice groups and been consistent. He just loves blowing the compressed plastic bottles with colored chalk powder up. I’ll most likely get a T1 for my 243 barrel so once he’s masted the 22 he can move onto that.

Good on him.
It's good to see kids take an interest in something other than a smart phone.
Life is too short to hunt with an ugly dog.

I started when I was 8 years old, so as far as I'm concerned the younger the better.
The sooner they start the keener they are.

Bloody oath. Only time he’s allowed on when we go away is just before bed. But the most important thing is when you take them when there young, is to make the trip about them. Easter trip I’ll get him shooting some more groups and will get a few more chalk bottles for him to blow up.

I hope so buddy, he’s very relaxed and takes his time when taking the shot. He doesn’t get over excited when he hits the target and doesn’t get upset when he misses. I don’t stress him about it as well. As time goes on I’ll just keep pushing the range out on him.

Good stuff, it won’t be long and he will be hunting next to you, time flies and they grow so fast.

Mate, you can't go wrong spending time with your kids in the bush and on the range. My young bloke has left home now but we still hunt together regularly and we talk guns and hunting at least once a fortnight. Keep up the good work.

Apologies for posting those photos. But I reckon spending time with your kids is the best investment any parent can make.

Cheers

Awesome photos Rod. Once they get the bug you just keep hooking into it. Young blokes all excited for Easter as we are going up to see the hillbillies for a few days and camping on the Mitta river. So he spend a bit of time working on his skills and trying to catch a few trout. I might chuck the 9.3x62 in and go for a walk one morning and have a crack at a Sambar why I’m there with him.

It's nice up that way, I've been thinking about doing a boat trip out there for a camp and hunt in the backwater.

Only problem with the mitta rive is it’s classed as a drain now and it’s up and down. And as normal they would of started to drop the water early this week for some dumb ass reason and the fish will go off the bite. It’s a very popular area at Easter and everyone loves to go for a fish.
If you have a canoe it’s the best way to move around the river.
